05-26-18 | Braves +114 v. Red Sox | Top | 6-8 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 19 m | Show |
At 1:05 pm, our selection is on the Atlanta Braves over Boston. The Red Sox will face a tough lefty this afternoon in Sean Newcomb. The Braves 2nd year player has a 5-1 record, including a spotless 4-0 mark on the road (1.49 Road ERA). Newcomb will no doubt be excited to make his Fenway Park debut, as he grew up a Red Sox fan in Middleborough, Massachusetts. The Red Sox have struggled vs. lefty starters this season (4.1 runs per game; .241 ba), so I expect Newcomb to do very well. His mound opponent will be Drew Pomeranz -- also a lefty. In contrast, the Braves have crushed lefties this season with a 9-3 record, .288 ba, and 6.3 rpg vs. southpaw starters. Take Atlanta. |

05-25-18 | Twins v. Mariners -183 | Top | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 11 h 55 m | Show |
At 10:10 pm, our selection is on the Seattle Mariners over the Minnesota Twins. It's hard to imagine a starter who is hotter than Seattle southpaw James Paxton. The 29-year-old is 2-0 with a 1.70 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 37 innings over his last five starts, with two complete games and a no-hitter. But perhaps the most impressive statistic is that in the 24 innings he's thrown in his last three, Paxton has only allowed nine hits. Not surprisingly, his WHIP is 0.54 over that period and 1.02 for the season. Paxton is something you don't see much anymore -- a workhorse who can go deep into games, to give the bullpen a rest. And those two complete games lead the league so far. Tonight, he gets to face a Twins offense that has manged just 188 runs so far -- next to last in the AL (CWS trails with 182). Minnesota will go with RHP Fernando Romero. Although Romero is having a solid rookie campaign, he has battled control issues over his four starts, including his last time out against the Brewers over five innings. The Twins are 5-12 in their last 17 road games vs. teams with a winning home record. Take the Mariners. MLB Roadkill Winner. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-25-18 | Celtics v. Cavs UNDER 201.5 | Top | 99-109 | Loss | -100 | 39 h 26 m | Show |
At 8:35 pm, our selection is on the Under in the Cleveland/Boston game, as it falls into an 82-42 Totals system of mine. These two teams have played four of their first five games in this year's Playoffs Under the total. And that has continued a long-term trend in this series, as 18 of the last 27 games have gone Under. Additionally, Boston's 17-6 Under on the road in the Playoffs. And teams, like Cleveland, that scored less than 85 points in their previous game, and now trail in a Playoff series, and face elimination, have gone Under the total 58.41% the past 25 years. Take the Under. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-24-18 | Warriors v. Rockets UNDER 219.5 | Top | 94-98 | Win | 100 | 16 h 56 m | Show |
At 9:05 pm, our selection is on the Golden State/Houston game to go 'under' the total. This series has seen three of its first four games go 'under' the total. And Game 4 went under by a whopping 40 points. I look for this trend to continue on Thursday, as the 'under' falls into an 195-139 totals system of mine. Additionally, Playoff games have gone 'under' the total 68.1% of the time the past 25 years if the previous playoff game went 'under' by more than 36 points. Take the 'under.' Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-24-18 | Orioles -135 v. White Sox | Top | 9-3 | Win | 100 | 9 h 59 m | Show |
At 2:10 pm, our selection is on the Baltimore Orioles over the Chicago White Sox. After a very hot start to the season, O's RHP Dylan Bundy has come down to earth. And you could say it's been with a thud. After five brilliant outings to start the season, Bundy had a 1.42 ERA, but since then he has seen that number rise all the way to 4.70 in just five more starts. In his last three trips to the mound, Bundy is 1-2 with a 7.62 ERA and 1.54 WHIP over 13 innings. But if there's an opportunity to break out of his doldrums, it just might be an afternoon start against the White Sox, as Chicago is an awful 2-10 at home in daytime games this season. And Bundy has a 0.70 ERA in daytime starts this year. Also, in four career appearances -- three starts -- against Chicago, Bundy is 3-0 with a 4.26 ERA in 19 innings. Meanwhile, White Sox RHP Lucas Giolito has really struggled this season. The 23-year-old former Nationals top prospect is 3-4 in nine starts and his 6.42 ERA is almost two runs higher than Bundy's. Finally, the Orioles are 9-4 in Bundy's last 13 starts vs. teams with a losing record. Take Baltimore. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-23-18 | Cavs v. Celtics +1 | Top | 83-96 | Win | 100 | 18 h 36 m | Show |
At 8:35 pm, our selection is on the Boston Celtics over the Cleveland Cavaliers. It's well-chronicled that the Boston Celtics have yet to lose a playoff game at home this season (they're 9-0 -- both straight-up and against the spread). That's one reason to favor the Celtics in Game 5, tonight. Another is that Boston has been the much superior team against the point spread this season. Boston's covered 63.5%, while Cleveland's cashed just 39.5%. That's a whopping 24 percent difference. And in the Playoffs, home teams that have covered more than 17.1% of the time than their opponents have cashed a staggering 82.35% since 1991! Take Boston in Game 5. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-23-18 | Capitals v. Lightning -141 | Top | 4-0 | Loss | -141 | 17 h 10 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Tampa Bay Lightning over the Washington Capitals. While the Western Conference playoffs haven't had all that much drama (the Knights dispatched the Jets in five games), the East has been a different story. The Caps had a huge victory over the Penguins in six games and have now taken the Eastern Finals to a seventh game against the Lightning with a dominant performance, at home, on Monday. But there is some cause for concern as the Caps head south. Alex Ovechkin was leveled by an illegal hit in the third period on Monday (no penalty was called) and he clearly was not himself after that. The Caps have been mum about any problems with their superstar, but surely hope he doesn't have any lingering issues. The other key to this game is Braden Holtby. If he lets the sold-out crowd get to him like he did in Game 5 when he allowed three goals in just 22 shots faced, then it will be trouble and the Caps will be eliminated. The Bolts are 17-5 this season when avenging a loss by two or more goals (the Caps won Game 6, 3-0). Take Tampa. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-23-18 | Indians v. Cubs -160 | Top | 1-0 | Loss | -160 | 17 h 2 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Chicago Cubs over the Cleveland Indians. The Cubs are said to be ready to make an all-out effort to get Manny Machado from the Orioles. And with SS Addison Russell producing almost nothing at the plate, you can certainly understand why. Fortunately, the Cubs have enough offense around Russell to offset his anemic production, but landing a player like Machado would automatically make them a World Series favorite once again. The lack of offense was on display on Tuesday when the Indians trounced them here at Wrigley and no doubt the Cubs would like to prevent home beatings like that in the future if at all possible. There may have been some concern when LHP Jon Lester took a step backwards last season. But Lester has laid those fears to rest by bouncing back strong so far in 2018, with a 4-1 record and 2.52 ERA in nine starts so far. He gets start number 10 tonight and would like nothing better than to beat the same team that he faced three times in the 2016 World Series. The Cubs are 20-2 in Lester's last 22 home night starts. Take Chicago. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-23-18 | Pirates -115 v. Reds | Top | 5-4 | Win | 100 | 16 h 7 m | Show |
At 7:10 pm, our selection is on the Pittsburgh Pirates over the Cincinnati Reds. You can say what you want about the Reds, but one thing you can't call them is disloyal. Take the case of Homer Bailey. The veteran RH has only called Cincinnati home since he came into the league and despite a plethora of injuries and just nine victories in the last four seasons, the Reds are sticking with Bailey at least through 2019, which would be his 13th year with the team. Once in a while, Bailey will throw in a gem, but more often than not, he struggles to get through a minimum number of innings as evidenced by the fact that the Reds are 1-9 in his 10 starts this season. And Pittsburgh is not a team that is ideally suited to Bailey busting out of his slump. Although his career record vs. the Bucs is 10-7, the Reds are 2-8 in Baliey's last 10 starts vs. them, including a 5-2 defeat in his last one on April 5. Meanwhile, Pirates' RHP Chad Kuhl won't be on anyone's All Star list, but the Pirates are 6-3 in his starts this season including 3-0 in his last three. The Reds are 5-18 in Division match-ups this season. Take Pittsburgh. |
05-23-18 | Marlins v. Mets -200 | Top | 2-1 | Loss | -200 | 16 h 6 m | Show |
At 7:10 pm, our selection is on the New York Mets over Miami. Jake deGrom has been brilliant this season. And his last start was his best yet, as he struck out 13, and walked none, in a 3-1 win over Arizona. Jake deGrom's ERA over his last three starts is 0.75, and he'll face a Marlins squad which is 26-77 (minus 24 games on the moneyline) priced as a road underdog of +175 to +250. Miami will hand the ball to Dan Straily, who has a pedestrian WHIP of 1.45. Also, New York is a solid 14-4 vs. teams scoring 4 or less runs per game this season. Take the Mets. |
05-22-18 | Mariners v. A's -148 | Top | 3-2 | Loss | -148 | 18 h 51 m | Show |
At 10:05 pm, our selection is on the Oakland Athletics over the Seattle Mariners. At 25-22, the Oakland A's are quietly putting a very nice first half together. Unfortunately, they're in the same Division as the Astros, Angels, and Mariners so their solid performance to date has only been good enough for fourth place (but just 4 1/2 games out of first). Tonight they will send RH starter Trevor Cahill to the mound for his sixth start of the season, and Cahill will be opposed by Mike Leake. Originally a starter when he came into the league in 2009 (with Oakland), Cahill has bounced around and been relegated to the bullpen over most of the past four seasons, mainly due to various injuries. But his return to the Bay Area has seen a return to form as Cahill has a 2.79 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in his five starts, although he's been a bit unlucky with only one win so far. In his last four starts vs. the M's, Cahill's teams (KC, Arizona, the A's) are 4-0. The A's are 5-0 in their last five games (8-2 in their last 10 home games) vs. teams with a right-handed starter. They are also 5-1 in Cahill's last six starts vs. AL West teams. Meanwhile, Cahill's teams have cashed his last eight home games, while Leake's teams are a poor 12-23 in division games. Take Oakland. MLB Division Game of the Month. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-22-18 | Rockets +9 v. Warriors | Top | 95-92 | Win | 100 | 17 h 50 m | Show |
At 9:05 pm, our selection is on the Houston Rockets + the points over Golden State. The Rockets owned the best record in the league this season. But all of that success went out the window in Game 3 when they lost by 41 points. I love Houston to bounce back on Tuesday, as .667 (or better) teams are a perfect 17-0 ATS as road underdogs, priced from +7 to +13 points, in Games 2, 3 or 4 of a Playoff series, if they trail by 1 or 2 games in the series. Take Houston. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-21-18 | Celtics +7 v. Cavs | Top | 102-111 | Loss | -110 | 15 h 33 m | Show |
At 8:35 pm, our selection is on the Boston Celtics + the points over Cleveland. The Celts were bombed by 30 points by Cleveland on Saturday. Unfortunately for LeBron James & Co., favorites off a playoff blowout win by more than 21 points generally fail to cover the spread in their next playoff game vs. that embarrassed opponent, and especially if they trail in the series. Since 1991, such teams have covered just 24.2% of the time, including 0-8 ATS in the last two rounds of the Playoffs. Cleveland is a poor 22-50-1 ATS this season as a favorite, including 1-11 ATS vs. foes off a loss by 14+ points. The Celtics, meanwhile, are 61-34-2 ATS on the season, including 10-1-1 ATS when they lost their previous game by double-digits. And they're 16-4 ATS when playing with revenge from a loss earlier in the season, including a perfect 6-0 ATS vs. .600 (or better) foes. Take Boston. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-21-18 | Lightning v. Capitals -124 | Top | 0-3 | Win | 100 | 14 h 8 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Washington Capitals over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Caps finally got Monkey #1 off their backs by beating the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round of the playoffs. But after taking a 2-0 lead in round three, the Caps have now gone on to lose three straight. It was their first three-game losing streak since January. Tampa scored early in Game 5's 3-2 victory and it looked like it would be a rout by early in the second period when the Bolts got their third goal. But the Caps can feel good about the fact that they came back strongly and completely dominated the second half of that game, out-shooting Tampa 26-9 (13-4 in the third period). If they can put together 60 minutes at that level of play, they should be able to take this series to a Game 7 back in central Florida. In fact, Washington has out-shot Tampa in each of the three straight losses and the total shots over that span has been a lopsided 106-65. The Caps haven't had a four-game losing streak in over a year (March 6-12, 2017) and they are 20-8 in their last 28 home meetings with the Bolts. Take DC. NHL Non-Division Game of the Year! As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-21-18 | Braves v. Phillies -122 | Top | 0-3 | Win | 100 | 13 h 0 m | Show |
At 7:05 pm, our selection is on the Philadelphia Phillies over the Atlanta Braves. At first look, Nick Pivetta's numbers don't seem all that impressive. The Phillies' RHP has a 3-2 record with a 3.72 ERA in his nine starts. But were it not for one particularly bad start on May 4 against the Nats in which Pivetta allowed six runs in one inning, his stats would look much better, with an ERA under three runs, a WHIP of just 0.80, and an incredible K:BB ratio of 49:6. Perhaps most important is the fact that the Phillies are 7-2 in Pivetta's starts this season. The Braves will go with RHP Mike Foltynewicz who -- in his age 26 season -- is experiencing a bit of a breakout campaign. But while the 2.87 ERA and 10.9 strikeout rate are very good numbers, Foltynewicz's walk rate is way up as he has issued 24 free passes in 47 innings so far (4.6 per nine IP). Perhaps not too surprisingly as a result the red-hot Braves are just 3-6 in his nine starts (and 3-13 in his last 16 going back to last season). You can reverse those numbers for Pivetta (the Phils are 13-3 in his last 16). The Phils are also 20-7 in their last 27 here at home. Take Philly. NL East Game of the Month. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-20-18 | Rockets v. Warriors -7 | Top | 85-126 | Win | 100 | 92 h 12 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Golden State Warriors. Analysis to follow. |
05-20-18 | Golden Knights v. Jets -145 | Top | 2-1 | Loss | -145 | 26 h 53 m | Show |
At 3 pm, our selection is on the Winnipeg Jets over Vegas. (Analysis to follow.) |
05-20-18 | Brewers v. Twins -124 | Top | 1-3 | Win | 100 | 2 h 37 m | Show |
At 2:10 pm, our selection is on the Minnesota Twins over Milwaukee. The Twins will try to salvage the 3rd game of this series after dropping the first two. The good news for Minny is that Jake Odorizzi is on the hill today. He has a 1.00 ERA at home this season (2 ER in 18 innings), while his mound opponent, Junior Guerra, has been struggling of late with a 6.19 ERA over his last three starts. Odorizzi's career ERA vs. the Brewers is 1.29, with a 0.42 WHIP. Take Minnesota. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-20-18 | Padres v. Pirates -136 | Top | 8-5 | Loss | -136 | 1 h 3 m | Show |
At 1:35 pm, our selection is on the Pittsburgh Pirates over the San Diego Padres. RHP Jordan Lyles hasn't had a regular rotation spot since 2015 when he was a member of the Rockies. But with Dinelson Lament and Joey Lucchesi on the shelf, it looks like Lyles will get the chance to start some games for the Padres. Lyles has earned this opportunity over anyone else by virtue of his 2.53 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in his 15 appearances (mostly out of the bullpen). But given that Lyles' career numbers leave a lot to be desired (29-49 with a 5.30 ERA in 713 innings) there is little to suggest that he's all of sudden found the formula for being a winning MLB starter. Even more telling is the fact that Lyles has started against the Pirates on seven previous occasions (one with Houston and six with Colorado) and his teams are 0-7 in those. Trevor Williams may not make many Pittsburgh fans forget Gerrit Cole, but the 26 year old RH is having a solid sophomore campaign with a 5-2 record and 2.72 ERA in nine starts. Heading into Sunday, the Padres are 4-8 in the last 12 meetings at PNC Park. Take the Bucs. |
05-20-18 | Orioles v. Red Sox -223 | Top | 0-5 | Win | 100 | 1 h 33 m | Show |
At 1:05 pm, our selection is on the Boston Red Sox over Baltimore. The Red Sox have been dominant as a big favorite, as they're 30-5 when priced at -200 or higher. Meanwhile, Baltimore is 4-18 on the road this season, and 7-35 (minus 23 games on the moneyline) when priced at +150 or higher. Finally, Eduardo Rodriguez' teams are 13-2 when he's been priced at -150 or higher. Take Boston. |
05-19-18 | Rays v. Angels -178 | Top | 5-3 | Loss | -178 | 16 h 47 m | Show |
At 9:05 pm, our selection is on the Los Angeles Angels over the Tampa Bay Rays. We're not sure what the record is for most MLB relief appearances before making a start, but there's a pretty good chance that Rays RHP Sergio Romo will be on the list after tonight. The 35-year-old career reliever will get the first start of his career after appearing a total of 588 times out of the bullpen over his 12 seasons in the league. Romo was offered tonight's start due to the hip injury to Blake Snell and he's in a tough spot having to face a very good Angels line-up on the road. He will probably be on a short leash as it's rumored that rookie LH Ryan Yarbrough will relieve Romo and pitch most of the innings. LHP Andrew Heaney will go for the Angels in his seventh start of the season. Once a top prospect in the league, Heaney's arrival was delayed due to various injuries, but he finally seems to be blossoming as a Major League southpaw, posting a 3.93 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in just over 34 innings so far. L.A. is 13-5 in its last 18 vs. teams with a losing record. Take the Angels. MLB High Roller. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-19-18 | Celtics v. Cavs -6 | Top | 86-116 | Win | 100 | 90 h 26 m | Show |
At 8:35 pm, our selection is on the Cleveland Cavs. (Analysis to follow.) |
05-18-18 | Jets +107 v. Golden Knights | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 13 h 50 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Winnipeg Jets over the Vegas Golden Knights. The Golden Knights are one win away from taking a commanding 3-1 lead in this series and therefore only two wins away from an appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals in their inaugural season as an expansion team. That's a feat that would have been thought of as being impossible just six months ago. But before they start popping the Champagne corks, there is still a very good team that they still need to defeat twice. The Jets after all, finished the regular season with the second-best record in the entire league. And then, just for good measure, they beat the team with the #1 record (the Predators) in the quarter-finals, so they're not going down without a fight. The Jets have lost two in a row coming in, but they are 8-2 in their last 10 after losing two straight. Even better: Winnipeg is 24-3 when playing with revenge from a road loss this season. Take the Jets. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-18-18 | Indians v. Astros -165 | Top | 1-4 | Win | 100 | 8 h 57 m | Show |
At 8:10 pm, our selection is on the Houston Astros over Cleveland. The indians are 21-21 this season, and have not been able to step up vs. the better teams. Indeed, they're 0-3 as an underdog this season, and 6-14 vs. foes that are currently .500 (or better). That doesn't bode well tonight, as they'll be going up against the defending champs, who also own the 3rd best record in baseball. And, to make matters worse, Charlie Morton will be on the mound, and he owns a 5-0 record, 2.03 ERA, with a 0.96 WHIP this season. He will face Mike Clevinger this season. Against .500 (or better) teams, with Clevinger on the hill, the Indians are 1-3 this season. Finally, Houston's 105-50 (+30 games on the moneyline) vs. righties. Take the Astros. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-18-18 | Brewers v. Twins -146 | Top | 8-3 | Loss | -146 | 8 h 55 m | Show |
At 8:10 pm, our selection is on the Minnesota Twins over the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers will be without slugger Ryan Braun in this series, as he was placed on the disabled list yesterday. And they'll have to face a tough pitcher tonight in Kyle Gibson, who has a 3.43 ERA this season. And in his last four starts he's been even better, as he's given up just seven earned runs in 23 2-3 innings (2.66 ERA). He'll face southpaw Brent Suter tonight, and the Brewers have won just one of Suter's last six starts. And that was just because they outscored Miami 6-5 in that game. In his last six starts, the Brewers' opponents have averaged 5.83 runs per game. Milwaukee's also lost all nine of Suter's career starts on the road when installed as an underdog. Take Minnesota. Perfect 10 Club. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-17-18 | Tigers v. Mariners -162 | Top | 3-2 | Loss | -162 | 20 h 3 m | Show |
At 10:10 pm, our selection is on the Seattle Mariners over the Detroit Tigers. Mariners 2B Robinson Cano got a double-dose of bad news when he had surgery to repair his broken hand and also found out that he had been suspended 80 games for violating the league's drug policy. He likely won't be back until the middle of August. But Seattle dodged a bullet as well as DH Nelson Cruz was hit on the foot with a pitch and had to be helped off the field the other night. X-rays determined that Cruz's foot is only bruised and he could be back very soon. Meanwhile, the Tigers had a three-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday when they were shut out, 6-0 by the Indians. Tonight, Detroit will send LHP Matt Boyd to the mound for the eighth time this season. But Seattle has been murdering southpaw pitchers this season, with a league-leading .281 batting average, .358 on-base pct, and .803 OPS against them. LHP Marco Gonzalez has struggled a bit in eight starts for the Mariners, but they are 5-3 in his trips to the mound so far. The M's are also 8-0 in their last eight games following a loss. Take Seattle. MLB High Roller Winner. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-17-18 | Lightning v. Capitals -110 | Top | 4-2 | Loss | -110 | 17 h 10 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Washington Capitals over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Here is the most important game the Caps have played so far all year -- perhaps this century. A victory tonight at home would put them one win away from their first Stanley Cup Finals in 20 years. A loss would put the home ice advantage back in the hands of the Lightning with the series returning to Tampa. The Lightning did everything in game three that they weren't able to do in the first two games of this series at home. Washington just needs to get back to playing their aggressive brand of hockey, throwing the puck and their forwards to the net as much as possible. They can feel good about the fact that they out-shot the Bolts by a wide margin in game three -- 38-23. Now they just need to make those shots count and protect Braden Holtby more tonight and they should be fine. The Capitals are a very strong revenge team recently, as they are 20-7 in situations where they are revenging a loss vs an opponent this season. Take Washington. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-16-18 | Astros -126 v. Angels | Top | 2-0 | Win | 100 | 20 h 33 m | Show |
At 9:40 pm, our selection is on the Houston Astros over the Los Angeles Angels. Last season, the Astros picked up ace and Cy Young/MVP award winner RHP Justin Verlander from the Tigers at the end of August. The hope was that Verlander could lead Houston to a World Series championship and Verlander did not disappoint. Now the 'Stros want Verlander to do it again and so far it's been business as usual for the 35-year-old. Verlander is 4-2 with a ridiculous 1.21 ERA in nine starts coming into tonight's critical match-up against the Angels. The Angels may be the team which poses the most serious threat to Houston's goal of repeating in the AL West, but Verlander has had no problem against them since he joined the team. In three starts against L.A. as a member of the 'Stros, Verlander is 3-0 with a 0.82 ERA in 22 innings. Verlander looks to take another important step tonight against Mike Trout & Co. in Anaheim. And Houston hasn't minded playing on the road recently, going 11-3 in its last 14 games away from Minute Maid Park. Take the 'Stros. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |

05-16-18 | Warriors v. Rockets -2 | Top | 105-127 | Win | 100 | 43 h 9 m | Show |
At 9:05 pm, our selection is on the Houston Rockets. (Analysis to follow.) |
05-16-18 | A's v. Red Sox -245 | Top | 4-6 | Win | 100 | 17 h 2 m | Show |
At 7:10 pm, our selection is on the Boston Red Sox over Oakland. Chris Sale will get the start for Boston tonight, and his teams have gone 32-7 vs. American League foes with a .255 (or worse) team batting average. Even worse for Oakland, the Red Sox are 29-5 when priced -200 (or higher). Take Boston. |

05-15-18 | Astros -175 v. Angels | Top | 5-3 | Win | 100 | 20 h 14 m | Show |
At 10:05 pm, our selection is on the Houston Astros over Anaheim. The Astros dropped Game 1 of this series last night, 2-1, but should bounce back on Tuesday behind RHP Gerrit Cole. Cole's teams have gone 23-5 with him on the mound, when priced as a road favorite of -125 or more. Meanwhile, the Angels are an awful 7-20 as a home underdog of +125 or higher. Take Houston. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-15-18 | Brewers v. Diamondbacks -151 | Top | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 20 h 47 m | Show |
At 9:40 pm, our selection is on the Arizona Diamondbacks over Milwaukee. There's not been a better pitcher in his home ball park than Zack Greinke. Indeed, his teams have gone 112-41 in his home starts (+50 games on the moneyline) when priced as a favorite, including 77-19 when priced -150 and higher. Take Arizona. |
05-15-18 | Cavs +1 v. Celtics | Top | 94-107 | Loss | -105 | 19 h 40 m | Show |
At 8:35 pm, our selection is on the Cleveland Cavaliers over the Boston Celtics. The Cavs were blown out by 25 to start this series. But I love Cleveland to bounce back on Tuesday, as .610 (or better) teams have cashed 35 of 50 playoff games off a road defeat by more than 21 points. And LeBron James' teams have gone 10-6 SU/ATS in the playoffs when down 1-0 in a series. Take Cleveland. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-15-18 | Lightning +107 v. Capitals | Top | 4-2 | Win | 107 | 18 h 16 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Tampa Bay Lightning over the Washington Capitals. The Caps didn't just beat the Lightning in the first two games, but completely dominated them. Game 2, in particular, was about as thorough a road bashing as we've seen in these playoffs. And clearly Tampa got frustrated towards the end and tried to get overly physical with its opponent when it knew a victory was out of reach. But tonight the Bolts will try to take a page from the playbook of the Capitals, as the Caps lost their first two games at home in their opening round series against the Blue Jackets before they won four straight to advance. And Tampa no doubt knows that the Caps have been much better on the road in these playoffs (7-1) than they have been here at Capital One Arena (3-3). Their victories in the first two games also mean that the Caps don't have to rush Nicklas Backstrom back from his hand injury and they can let it continue to heal. So he won't be on the ice tonight, a decision the Caps may regret by the third period. The Caps won Game 2, 6-2, but they may have wanted to save some of those goals for tonight as they are 3-7 in their last 10 after scoring 5+ goals in their previous game. Even worse for Washington: Tampa is 12-3 when playing with double-revenge, and 23-11 when trailing in a playoff series. Take the Lightning. NHL Game of the Week. As always, good luck...Al McMordie |
05-15-18 | Indians -130 v. Tigers | Top | 8-9 | Loss | -130 | 17 h 17 m | Show |
At 7:10 pm, our selection is on the Cleveland Indians over Detroit. The Tigers won last night, 6-2, in Game 1 of this series. But they're still a poor 56-94 (minus 32 games on the moneyline) vs. righties. Meanwhile, Cleveland is 79-52 vs. lefties, and 108-56 (+18 games on the moneyline) vs. division foes (including 21-10 with Josh Tomlin on the hill). Tomlin faced Detroit earlier this season, and shut out the Tigers over 5 innings. Take Cleveland. |
05-14-18 | Warriors +1.5 v. Rockets | Top | 119-106 | Win | 100 | 19 h 49 m | Show |
At 9:05 pm, our selection is on the Golden State Warriors + the points over Houston. The Rockets' win percentage (including playoff games) is substantially higher (.793 vs. .717) than the Warriors' win percentage, and Houston also enjoys home court advantage. Yet Houston's not being given much respect in Vegas, as it's favored by a very short price. The knee-jerk reaction might be to play on the "better" team in Game 1 laying a very short price, but consider that NBA teams that owned a much better (at least .060) win percentage have covered just 26% of their Game 1s since 1991 when not favored by more than four points! Take the Warriors. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-14-18 | Indians -218 v. Tigers | Top | 3-6 | Loss | -218 | 17 h 55 m | Show |
At 7:10 pm, our selection is on the Cleveland Indians over the Detroit Tigers. At age 31, it may be time for Cleveland RHP Carlos Carrasco to make the transition from very good pitcher to bona-fide, Cy Young quality ace. The Tribe already has one of those -- RHP Corey Kluber -- but Carrasco seems to be on the doorstep, especially considering the aging decline of AL aces like Felix Hernandez, David Price, and Cole Hamels. Carrasco finished fourth in the Cy Young voting last season after posting a league-leading 18 wins with a 3.29 ERA and he seems to be on a mission to improve on that in 2018. So far, in his first eight starts, Carrasco is 5-1 with a slightly higher 3.61 ERA, but a superior 1.03 WHIP and he has two complete games already (he had one in all of 2017). He's got a great opportunity for win number six tonight against the team that he owns more victories against than any other. In 26 games -- including 21 starts -- covering 125 innings vs. the Tigers, Carrasco is 11-7 with a 3.67 ERA. More importantly, the Tribe is an amazing 12-1 in Carrasco's last 13 starts vs. Detroit. Take Cleveland. |
05-13-18 | Capitals v. Lightning -190 | Top | 6-2 | Loss | -190 | 17 h 40 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Tampa Bay Rays over the Washington Capitals. Those Tampa fans logically hoping that the Caps would have a Game 1 let-down after arguably the biggest win in franchise history (the series-clinching, Game 6 triumph over the Pens) were sorely disappointed. Not only didn't the Caps show any signs of complacency, they came out with perhaps their best two periods of hockey in these playoffs. In those periods, they totally dominated the Bolts and raced out to a 4-0 lead. It got so bad, the Lightning pulled goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy and replaced him with Louis Domingue, a move that seemed to pay off as Tampa won the third period, 2-0, but still lost the game. Vasilevskiy should be back in goal tonight and will look to redeem himself. There is no need to panic in Central Florida as the Bolts also lost the first game of their second round series here at home but then reeled off four straight against Boston. And while that is not likely to happen against the Caps, Tampa should be able to answer the call tonight. The Bolts are 5-0 in their last five after scoring two goals or less in their previous game, and they're also 11-3 when playing with revenge from a home defeat. Take the Lightning. NHL Elite Info Winner. As always, good luck...Al McMordie |
05-12-18 | Reds v. Dodgers -186 | Top | 5-3 | Loss | -186 | 18 h 52 m | Show |
At 9:10 pm, our selection is on the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Cincinnati Reds. Matt Harvey made a successful debut for Cincinnati -- a positive development in what has otherwise been a dreadful season for the once mighty Reds. We're a long way from the days of the "Big Red Machine" and though there are a few names you could come up with for the 2018 version of this team, they are not very complimentary. And while a losing Reds season in 2018 is no surprise, it is not expected to apply to the Dodgers who are just 16-22 after that loss last night. You just knew there would be some injuries on the Dodgers pitching staff, and although the one to Kershaw is a bit of a shock, the fact that Hyun-Jin Ryu is once again on the shelf is certainly no surprise. This opens the door for RHP Ross Stripling. Stripling posted four scoreless innings in an emergency start due to the Kershaw injury last time out. This time, he will enjoy a normal routine with plenty of notice. Despite their loss last night, the Dodgers are still 27-9 in their last 36 vs. teams from the NL Central. Meanwhile, Homer Bailey is now 0-5 in his eight starts this season (while the Reds are 0-8 in those eight games). Take Los Angeles. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-12-18 | Royals v. Indians -197 | Top | 2-6 | Win | 100 | 13 h 51 m | Show |
At 4:10 pm, our selection is on the Cleveland Indians over the Kansas City Royals. This afternoon, the Indians will hand the ball to Mike Clevinger, who owns a super 2.76 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in his 7 starts this season. Clevinger also has dominated the Royals, as he's 2-0 in five starts (the Indians are 4-1 in those five games), with a 2.17 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. This season, the Royals are an awful 5-18 (minus 12 games on the moneyline) vs. right-handed starters, and they're 4-23 (minus 15 games on the moneyline) when priced from +175 to +250. Take Cleveland. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-11-18 | Nationals -188 v. Diamondbacks | Top | 3-1 | Win | 100 | 20 h 41 m | Show |
At 9:40 pm, our selection is on the Washington Nationals over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Even if Clayton Kershaw wasn't on the DL, the Nationals' RHP Max Scherzer would still almost certainly be the best starter in the National League. All Scherzer has done this season is go 6-1 with a 1.74 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in eight starts covering 51 2/3 innings. And just for good measure, Scherzer has posted a career-best 13.9 strikeouts per inning. It seems there's almost nothing Mad Max can't do as he is also hitting a respectable .238 at the plate in 21 ABs with a couple of RBI and even a stolen base (the first of his career). Some pitchers might be concerned facing the D-Backs, but not Scherzer it would seem. The Nats' ace is 5-0 in his career against Arizona with a 3.13 ERA in seven starts covering 41 innings. Heading into Friday's game, the Nationals are 29-13 in the last 42 meetings with the Diamondbacks. And Scherzer's teams have gone 63-20 (+24 games on the moneyline) when priced from -175 to -250. Take DC. Mound Mismatch Massacre! As always, good luck...Al McMordie |
05-10-18 | Cardinals -143 v. Padres | Top | 2-1 | Win | 100 | 19 h 27 m | Show |
At 10:10 pm, our selection is on the St. Louis Cardinals over the San Diego Padres. About 1/4 of the way through the season, and the NL Central is shaping up to be the most competitive race in the Majors. As of last night, only one game separated first place (the Cards) from fourth (surprisingly, the Cubs), with only the Reds looking like they are out of it already (not surprisingly). One of the biggest positive developments on this St. Louis team has been RHP Miles Mikolas. Back in the big leagues after three seasons in Japan, Mikolas has quickly become one of the sport’s most efficient and effective starters. In six starts covering 40 innings he is 4-0 with a 2.70 ERA with a league-leading 0.5 walk rate and sparkling 15.5 K/BB rate. He'll get start number seven tonight in San Diego's very pitcher-friendly Petco Park, a place where he's never pitched before. He should find it to his liking. RH Jordan Lyles hasn't started a game since last September, but he gets the chance tonight after throwing just under 20 innings from the Padres' bullpen. The Cards are 10-3 in the last 13 meetings with the Pads. Take St. Louis. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-10-18 | Brewers v. Rockies -145 | Top | 5-2 | Loss | -145 | 18 h 56 m | Show |
At 8:40 pm, our selection is on the Colorado Rockies over Milwaukee. Both of these teams enter tonight's game with identical 21-16 records. We'll back the homestanding Rockies, as Jhoulys Chacin's ERA away from home this season is 5.73 with a 1.72 WHIP. Meanwhile, the Rockies with German Marquez are 6-0 as a home favorite priced above -145, while Chacin's teams are a poor 11-25 in his starts when priced from +125 to +175. Take Colorado. |
05-10-18 | Red Sox +127 v. Yankees | Top | 5-4 | Win | 127 | 16 h 22 m | Show |
At 7:05 pm, our selection is on the Boston Red Sox over the New York Yankees. The Red Sox lost last night, but they're still 79-50 their last 129 nighttime road games (+24 games on the moneyline). Also, Eduardo Rodriguez' career ERA in his nine starts vs. New York is 2.96, while CC Sabathia's ERA in his 41 starts vs. Boston is a pedestrian 4.37. Take the underdog Red Sox. |
05-09-18 | Mariners v. Blue Jays -121 | Top | 2-5 | Win | 100 | 5 h 7 m | Show |
At 7:05 pm, our selection is on the Toronto Blue Jays over the Seattle Mariners. Two veteran southpaws go to the mound in Toronto tonight as the Mariners send out Wade Leblanc opposite the Jays and Jaime Garcia. Leblanc got his first MLB start in almost two years last Friday as Erasmo Ramirez has landed on the 10-day DL with a muscle strain. It was a solid effort, but Leblanc was only allowed to go four innings and 70 pitches. He will likely get a longer look tonight but it will have to be against a pretty strong offense. The Jays have put together a solid season, going 19-17 heading into today, but it may be all for naught if the Red Sox and Yankees don't cool off at some point. Garcia is having a bit of a resurgence with the Jays this season and they are 4-2 in his six starts so far. The Mariners, behind James Paxton, no-hit this Blue Jays team last night, but they are still just 21-41 in the last 62 meetings here in Toronto. They are also just 1-5 in their last six games vs. teams from the American League East. Take the Blue Jays. MLB Roadkill Winner. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-09-18 | Angels v. Rockies -143 | Top | 8-0 | Loss | -143 | 13 h 58 m | Show |
At 3:10 pm, our selection is on the Colorado Rockies over the Los Angeles Angels. Colorado snapped its 9-game losing streak to Anaheim with a 4-2 win in Game 1 of this series last night -- its sixth straight win, overall. The Rockies' pitching used to be the worst in the league, year in and year out. But recently this is not the case. We're starting to see some potential aces emerge from the Rox system. Case in point is LH Tyler Anderson. The 28-year-old is in his third MLB season -- all with Colorado -- and he seems to be on the verge of a breakout. Anderson is 2-0 with a 3.78 ERA in seven starts, and his strikeout numbers have increased dramatically (10.0 per nine IP). Most importantly, throughout his career, Anderson has pitched much better here at Coors (9-5; 3.36) than he has on the road (4-7; 4.93). The Rox are 4-0 in Anderson's last four starts, while the Angels are 1-4 in their last five vs. a LH starter. Look for the Rockies to stretch their win streak to 7 games this afternoon. Take Colorado. As always, good luck...Al McMordie |
05-08-18 | Tigers v. Rangers -160 | Top | 7-4 | Loss | -160 | 17 h 24 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Texas Rangers over the Detroit Tigers. When we last saw RHP Mike Minor starting games in the Major Leagues, it was in 2014 when he was a member of the Atlanta Braves. After numerous injuries, Minor re-surfaced last season in a relief role with the Kansas City Royals, and he was pretty successful, logging a 2.55 ERA and six saves in just under 78 innings. The Rangers saw enough in Minor last season that they signed him to a three-year contract in December and with all of their defections and injuries, they made Minor a starter and probably aren't regretting that decision at all. In six starts so far, Minor is 3-1 with a 4.36 ERA and although that number is a bit high, it's mostly due to Minor's two road starts against two very potent offenses in Houston and Toronto. At home here in Arlington, Minor is 2-1 with a 2.86 ERA in four starts covering 22 innings. After last night's defeat, the Tigers are 2-7 in their last nine visits to Arlington, Texas. Take the Rangers. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-08-18 | Jazz +12.5 v. Rockets | Top | 102-112 | Win | 100 | 17 h 22 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Utah Jazz + the points over Houston. The Rockets took a 3-1 series lead with a sweep of the Jazz in Salt Lake City. The series returns to the Toyota Center tonight, where the Rockets will look to eliminate the Jazz. Unfortunately for Houston, it's been installed as a huge favorite. And home favorites of 12+ points off a win in the playoffs are a poor 13-34 ATS if they're not trailing in the series. Take Utah. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-08-18 | Mets v. Reds -137 | Top | 2-7 | Win | 100 | 16 h 30 m | Show |
At 7:10 pm, our selection is on the Cincinnati Reds over the New York Mets. What a difference a few weeks can make. Back in the beginning of April, the New York Mets looked all but invincible. Now, they are struggling to just win a game. The Mets defeated the Reds on Monday night to snap a 6-game losing strek. But they just barely won, as they edged Cincy, 7-6, here at Great American Ball Park. As always seems to happen, the injuries are piling up for the Mets, with the latest being RH ace Jacob deGrom who landed on the DL with a hyper-extended elbow, adding to their already substantial list of wounded players. They will go with LHP Jason Vargas tonight. Vargas had an All Star first half of the season with the Royals in 2017, but completely fell apart in the second part of the season. The Mets signed him to a two-year contract in the off-season hoping they would get the first-half version. Unfortunately, what they've gotten so far is an even worse-than-second-half version. The 35-year-old is 0-2 with an ugly 16.20 ERA in two starts. Take the Reds. |
05-08-18 | Royals v. Orioles -140 | Top | 15-7 | Loss | -140 | 16 h 24 m | Show |
At 7:05 pm, our selection is on the Baltimore Orioles over the Kansas City Royals. The teams with the two of the three worst records in the American League meet tonight in the first of a three-game series. You may not be surprised to hear that one of them is the Royals. But it might cause a bit of a double-take to learn that the Orioles are the other. This is a team that has had one of the most feared offenses in the league the past several seasons, but so far, almost nothing has gone right for them in 2018 -- either with the lineup or on the mound. The O's had a day off on Monday after a disastrous west coast road trip that saw them go 0-6. But the Angels and Athletics are much better teams right now than the Royals. So, if there is any situation which they would want to come back to after a tough road trip, it's with their ace on the mound against an 11-23 opponent. RHP Dylan Bundy may be just 1-4 but he has a nice 3.76 ERA and solid 4.36 K:BB ratio in his seven starts. The Royals will go with LHP Danny Duffy, and the Royals are 0-8 in Duffy's last eight starts. Take the Orioles. |
05-07-18 | Nationals -165 v. Padres | Top | 8-5 | Win | 100 | 11 h 56 m | Show |
At 10:10 pm, our selection is on the Washington Nationals over the San Diego Padres. Nationals RHP Stephen Strasburg will make his fourth career start in San Diego and given that this is his hometown, there will probably be plenty of friends and family in the crowd to root on the 29-year-old. He obviously doesn't mind coming home, as Stras is 2-1 with a 2.84 ERA and 0.89 WHIP in those three starts covering 19 innings here at Petco Park. After a slower-than-slow start to the season, the Nats have been coming on strong of late, going 7-3 in their last 10 games coming into tonight. And with the return of 3B Anthony Rendon, who played his first game in three weeks on Saturday, the Nats offense gets an additional boost. There are now only two games separating the first place Braves from the fourth place Nationals, so by the end of the week, the NL East could easily be completely different than it is right now. The Padres do return home from a Cinco de Mayo series in Mexico but they are 3-8 in their last 11 home games vs. DC. Take the Nats. MLB Road Warrior. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-07-18 | Capitals v. Penguins -190 | Top | 2-1 | Loss | -190 | 17 h 45 m | Show |
At 7:05 m, our selection is on the Pittsburgh Penguins over the Washington Capitals. Pittsburgh did everything but win the game in DC on Saturday night. They out-shot, out-hustled, and out-hit the Capitals, but in the end they wound up on the losing end of a 6-3 game that was much closer than the score indicates (the Caps got two empty net goals, something you don't see in the regular season). The Caps were without their #1 physical presence, F Tom Wilson (suspension) and it showed. They will be without him again tonight and in the final game if the Pens win this Game 6. Even worse: it's also possible Washington will be without F Nicklas Backstrom and D John Carlson -- both of whom left the third period with injuries on Saturday, and are being evaluated as of this writing. Regardless, a Pens' effort similar to Saturday's should result in a home-team victory tonight, and would send this series back to Capital One Arena for one of the most anticipated Game 7s in quite some time. The Caps are 4-9 in the last 13 trips to Pittsburgh, and 10-18 in close-out Playoff games, while Pitt is 17-3 their last 20 off a loss by 2+ goals (and 50-15 their last 65). Take the Pens. NHL Elite Info Winner. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-07-18 | Celtics v. 76ers UNDER 205 | Top | 92-103 | Win | 100 | 16 h 1 m | Show |
At 6:05 pm (please note the early start), our selection is on the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics to go 'under' the total. We played on the under in Saturday's Game 3, and easily got the $$$, even though the game did go into overtime. One of the reasons we played on that Game 3 to go 'under' was that the Celtics have been a strong 'under' team on the road (now 37-26-4 'under') and especially in the playoffs (now 15-5 'under' their last 20 road playoff games). Boston won that Game 3, as a 9.5-point underdog, and now leads this series 3 games to none. And that leads us to another reason why I love tonight's game to go 'under.' In the NBA playoffs, teams (like Philly) trailing in a series, and facing elimination have gone 'under' the total much more often than not over the past 28 years. This season, we've seen 7 of 10 such elimination games go 'under' the total, and I look for that trend to continue tonight. Take the 'under.' Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-06-18 | Golden Knights v. Sharks -140 | Top | 3-0 | Loss | -140 | 17 h 23 m | Show |
At 7:35 pm, our selection is on the San Jose Sharks over the Vegas Golden Knights. This series could be the first second-rounder to go to seven games if the Sharks can win at home tonight. And there's reason to believe that they can. For one thing, the Sharks tend to do really well against opponents who are strong on the road. They are 9-2 in their last 11 home games vs. teams with a winning road record. And although there hasn't been a lot of history with this series, the home team has been dominant in what little history there is (6-3 in the nine meetings). In their two previous playoff games here, the Sharks have out-shot the Knights by nine (76-67) and they actually dominated game three, which went to OT before Vegas finally prevailed. They were able to put that loss behind them in game four here when they played their best game of the post-season, shutting out the Knights, 4-0. The Sharks are also 10-2 in their last 12 when their opponent scores five goals or more in the previous game. Take San Jose. NHL High Roller Winner. As always, good luck...Al McMordie |
05-06-18 | Astros -190 v. Diamondbacks | Top | 1-3 | Loss | -190 | 13 h 25 m | Show |
At 4:10 pm, our selection is on the Houston Astros over Arizona. The defending World Series Champs will hand the ball to their ace, Justin Verlander. And all Verlander has done this season is go 4-0 with a 1.13 ERA and a 0.67 WHIP. And on the road, he's been untouchable, with a 0.00 ERA and 0.84 WHIP in three starts. I look for Verlander's spectacular season to continue this afternoon, as he's never lost to the Diamondbacks (3-0, 2.61 ERA). Moreover, Houston is 57-24 as a road favorite, while the Diamondbacks are an awful 38-132 when priced from +175 to +250. Take the Astros. MLB Road Warrior Winner. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-06-18 | Warriors -5.5 v. Pelicans | Top | 118-92 | Win | 100 | 14 h 30 m | Show |
At 3:35 pm, our selection is on the Golden State Warriors minus the points over New Orleans. The Pelicans blew out the Warriors, 119-100, on Friday to cut the series deficit to one game heading into this Game 4. Unfortunately for the Pelicans, the Warriors are at their very best off a straight-up loss when playing an opponent off a win. Dating back to 2011, Golden State is 75-38-1 ATS in this situation, including 15-8 ATS in the Playoffs, and 9-1 ATS as a favorite of more than 5 points vs. a .580 (or better) foe. Take the Warriors. NBA ELITE INFO WINNER. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-05-18 | Raptors v. Cavs UNDER 216 | Top | 103-105 | Win | 100 | 13 h 59 m | Show |
At 8:35 pm, our selection is on the Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavs Under the total. The Raptors were upset at home, 128-110, by the Cavaliers on Thursday. Teams off home upset losses in the Playoffs tend to bounce back with better defensive games on the road the next time out, and such games have gone 'Under' the total 58% since 1991. The Under also falls into a 97-55 Totals system of mine. Take the Under. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-05-18 | Raptors +5 v. Cavs | Top | 103-105 | Win | 100 | 13 h 58 m | Show |
At 8:35 pm, our selection is on the Toronto Raptors + the points over Cleveland. The Raptors were blown out, 128-110 in Game 2, and certainly didn't expect to be down 2 games to none in this series after compiling the best record in the Eastern Conference. We'll grab the points with Toronto as NBA playoff teams with a superior win percentage have cashed 79.16% since 1991 off back-to-back playoff losses, if they lost their previous game by 15+ points. Take Toronto. NBA Game of the Week. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-05-18 | Penguins v. Capitals -110 | Top | 3-6 | Win | 100 | 12 h 42 m | Show |
At 7:15 pm, our selection is on the Washington Capitals over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Caps may have lost game four in Pittsburgh, but in many ways, the game Thursday night was a moral victory for them. They found out earlier that day that F Tom Wilson had been suspended for three games for an illegal hit that broke the jaw of Penguins C Zach-Aston Reese. Even without their #1 enforcer, the Caps played the Penguins basically even for most of the game, finally succumbing late in the second period on an Evgeni Malkin goal that barely trickled over the goal line (Pittsburgh added an empty-net tally at the end). The Caps held the Pens to just 24 shots, but only managed 21 themselves. Look for that to change tonight back at home where DC put 66 total shots on Matt Murray in Games 1 and 2. And the fact that the Caps only lit the lamp once on Thursday may not be a good thing for the Pens tonight as they are 1-6 in their last seven when their opponent scores two goals or less in their previous game. Meanwhile, Washington is 24-13 off a loss. Take the Caps. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |

05-05-18 | Giants v. Braves -148 | Top | 11-2 | Loss | -148 | 12 h 36 m | Show |
At 7:10 pm, our selection is on the Atlanta Braves over the San Francisco Giants. At 19-12, the Braves are off to their best start since the days of Bobby Cox and Chipper Jones. The hitting has been huge for them with veterans like Nick Markakis, Freddy Freeman, and -- surprise -- Kurt Suzuki stepping up and having big seasons. But it's the starting pitching that has provided perhaps the biggest unexpected boost. Atlanta's staff has a 3.35 ERA this season, which is fourth-best in the National League. One of the reasons has been the performance of veteran RH Brandon McCarthy. The 34-year-old is putting in an early bid for his first All Star appearance, with a 4-0 record and 3.09 ERA in six starts covering 32 innings. This will be McCarthy's first time facing the Giants as a member of the Braves, but he's very familiar with them from his days with the Dodgers and Diamondbacks. The Giants will go with LHP Ty Blach and they are 0-6 in his last six road starts vs. teams with a winning record. Take the Braves. Mound Mismatch Massacre. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |

05-05-18 | Rockies v. Mets -124 | Top | 2-0 | Loss | -124 | 12 h 35 m | Show |
At 7:10 pm, our selection is on the New York Mets over the Colorado Rockies. The sky seemed to be the limit for Mets' LHP Steven Matz after his second season in the league in 2016. In that campaign, Matz won nine games while posting a 3.40 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 22 starts while finishing sixth in the NL Cy Young balloting. But 2017 brought injuries like it did for so many Mets pitchers, and when the dust settled, Matz had posted just two wins from 13 starts with an ugly 6.08 ERA. So this season brings a chance for Matz to hit the reset button and although he's struggled a bit so far, there are some very positive signs like his 26 strikeouts and 10 walks in 21 2/3 innings. He'll look to build on that tonight at home where the Mets have won each of his last two starts against two very good teams (the Nats and Brewers). RHP Chad Bettis hasn't faced the Mets since July of 2016 and both of his starts against them have been here at Citi Field and his team is 0-2 in those. The Rockies are 5-13 in the last 18 games in Queens. Take the Mets. MLB Roadkill Winner. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |

05-05-18 | Celtics v. 76ers -9 | Top | 101-98 | Loss | -103 | 9 h 29 m | Show |
At 5:05 pm, our selection is on the Philadelphia 76ers minus the points over Boston. The Sixers are down 2 games to none in this series, and have been installed as a big favorite today. That bodes well for them, as teams down exactly two games in a series have cashed 71.05% at home in the first three rounds of the playoffs since 1991 when favored by more than 4 points. Lay it. |
05-05-18 | Celtics v. 76ers UNDER 206.5 | Top | 101-98 | Win | 100 | 9 h 29 m | Show |
At 5:05 pm, our selection is on the Under in the Philly/Boston game. The Celtics are 36-26-4 Under the total on the road their last 66 games, and are 14-5 Under their last 19 Playoff games. The Under also falls into an 86-48 Totals system of mine. Take the Under. |
05-04-18 | Rockets -3.5 v. Jazz | Top | 113-92 | Win | 100 | 46 h 20 m | Show |
At 10:35 pm, on Friday, our selection is on the Houston Rockets minus the points over Utah. The Jazz stunned the #1-seeded Rockets on Wednesday, with a 116-108 victory at the Toyota Center. Unfortunately for the Jazz, NBA home teams are an awful 6-17 ATS in Game 3 of the quarterfinals, if they're off an upset win and the series is tied at 1-game apiece. Even worse: if their win percentage is .640 or worse, then they're a dismal 1-10 ATS. Take Houston in Game 3. Western Conference Game of the Week. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-04-18 | Pirates v. Brewers -116 | Top | 6-4 | Loss | -116 | 16 h 14 m | Show |
At 8:10 pm, our selection is on the Milwaukee Brewers over the Pittsburgh Pirates. It would be hard for Nick Kingham to have a better MLB debut than he did last Sunday. The 26-year-old Pirates RH took a perfect game into the seventh inning, the first time any pitcher had done that in his MLB debut since 1974. When it was over, Kingham had tossed seven, one-hit innings, striking out nine without a walk. Needless to say, he got the win and has stuck in the Pittsburgh rotation. But Kingham also had a dream match-up in the first start. He got to face a Cardinals offense that's hitting just .235 this season, and he did it at home. Things won't be so easy for him tonight in start number two. He has to go to Milwaukee to face the first-place Brewers on their home soil. And although Kingham's ERA after that start is 0.00, he's going opposite a starter whose number isn't much higher than that. RHP Junior Guerra sports a 0.82 ERA but he's done that over four starts and 22 innings. The Pirates are 1-4 in the last five meetings and 25-69 in the last 94 in Milwaukee. Take the Crew. MLB Roadkill Winner. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-04-18 | Warriors v. Pelicans UNDER 231 | Top | 100-119 | Win | 100 | 42 h 18 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, on Friday, our selection is on the 'under' in the Golden State/New Orleans game. The Warriors scored more than 120 points in each of the first two games of this series. The knee-jerk reaction might be to look for another high-scoring game on Friday in Game 3. But consider that NBA Playoff games have gone 'under' the total 63.2% since 1992 in games where one (or both) of the teams had scored more than 116 points in each of its two previous Playoff games in that season. Take the Warriors/Pelicans 'under' the total. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-04-18 | Lightning v. Bruins -145 | Top | 4-3 | Loss | -145 | 15 h 15 m | Show |
At 7:05 pm, our selection is on the Boston Bruins over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The all-or-nothing Bruins are at it again. It seems throughout these playoffs, the Bruins either win big or lose big -- there is little in between with them. Case in point: only one of their 10 playoff games so far has been decided by one goal and none of them have gone to OT. They seem to have a pattern of playing two great games in a row followed by two clunkers, and their last two games -- including game three here at home -- certainly qualify as the latter. In game two in Tampa, the Bruins managed just 20 shots and on Wednesday, they weren't much better, putting 29 on the Tampa net while the Bolts logged 37 and won the game easily, 4-1. With that as a backdrop, don't be surprised if there is a big turnaround tonight, similar to what we saw in Game 7 at home vs. Toronto after the Bruins lost the two previous games. The Lightning are 8-29-3 in the last 40 meetings in Boston, and a poor 8-11 (minus 14 games on the moneyline) off a win over a division rival. Meanwhile, Boston is 14-3 at home off a loss, and 8-3 this season off back to back losses. Take the Bruins. NHL Game of the Year! As always, good luck...Al McMordie |
05-03-18 | 76ers -4 v. Celtics | Top | 103-108 | Loss | -100 | 28 h 44 m | Show |
At 8:35 pm, our selection is on the Philadelphia 76ers minus the points over Boston. The Sixers were upset, 117-101, in Game 1 of this series. But I look for them to bounce back on Thursday, as favorites are 73-45-2 ATS in the 2nd Round of the NBA playoffs since 1991 off a 7-point road loss, including 5-2 ATS as a road favorite off an upset loss. Lay the points with Philly. NBA High Roller Winner. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-03-18 | Capitals v. Penguins -155 | Top | 1-3 | Win | 100 | 25 h 56 m | Show |
At 7:05 pm, on Thursday, our Metropolitan Division Game of the Month is on the Pittsburgh Penguins over the Washington Capitals. On Tuesday night, the Caps took a 2-1 series lead with a 4-3 upset win at the Igloo. So, Washington may be able to finally break the Penguins' stranglehold on their Playoffs rivalry (the Pens have won nine of 10 Playoff series vs. Washington, including all 7 series since 1995). So the monkey isn't off their back quite yet -- it's just slipping a bit. But winning two straight in Pittsburgh, and taking a 3-1 series lead, is a whole different story. So, you can bet the Pens will come out firing tonight to try to establish the early advantage. It definitely helped their cause that the Pens had Evgeni Malkin and Brian Dumoulin back on the ice in game three, although neither was likely at 100% on Tuesday. They should be better tonight and the Pens may also get Carl Hagelin back, while the Caps could be without Tom Wilson, who is facing a suspension for a high hit in game two. Wilson is a big (6' 4") enforcer when he's on the ice and without him, the Caps won't be nearly as physically effective. The Pens are 97-35 in their last 132 home games, 67-26 after allowing more than three goals, and 20-6 off back to back losses. Take Pittsburgh. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-03-18 | Cavs v. Raptors -6 | Top | 128-110 | Loss | -115 | 37 h 30 m | Show |
At 6:05 pm, our selection is on the Toronto Raptors minus the points over Cleveland. The Raptors were upset by Cleveland, 113-112, in Game 1 on Tuesday. I love the Raptors to rebound on Thursday, as home teams have cashed 75% over the past 13 years off a loss in Game 1 of the quarter-final round, including a perfect 8-0 SU/ATS when they owned a win percentage of .700 or better. Take Toronto. NBA Elite Info Winner. Good luck, as always....Al McMordie. |
05-03-18 | Dodgers +111 v. Diamondbacks | Top | 5-2 | Win | 111 | 15 h 39 m | Show |
At 3:40 pm, our selection is on the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Two of the NL's hottest southpaw starters of 2018 go to the mound in this series finale in Arizona this afternoon. Both the Dodgers' Alex Wood and the D-Backs' Patrick Corbin have WHIPs well under 1.00, with Corbin's at 0.75 and Wood's at 0.89. But Corbin's Kryptonite just might be the L.A. Dodgers. In 17 appearances vs. L.A. -- including 15 starts -- Corbin is 4-9 with a 4.05 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in just under 87 innings. Those nine losses represent the most that he's accumulated against any team in baseball. On the flip side, Wood has a very solid 3.20 ERA in 13 career games (nine starts) vs. Arizona and he's thrown quality starts in each of his last three (and five of his last six) against it. Meanwhile, Arizona is 1-5 in Corbin's last six vs. L.A. dating back to June of 2016, while the Dodgers are 21-9 in Wood's last 30 starts. Take L.A. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-02-18 | Dodgers +109 v. Diamondbacks | Top | 2-1 | Win | 109 | 17 h 2 m | Show |
At 9:40 pm, our selection is on the Los Angeles Dodgers over Arizona. LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu will go to the mound tonight and the Korean has pitched very well so far. In five starts, he's 3-0 with a 2.22 ERA and a sparkling 0.84 WHIP. In contrast, his mound opponent's numbers are rather pedestrian. For the season, Zack Godley has a 3.81 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP, including a 6.91 ERA and 2.16 WHIP over his last three starts. Godley's career ERA vs. the Dodgers is 4.33, and he was bombed for six runs (five earned) in four innings by the Dodgers less than three weeks ago. Take Los Angeles. MLB High Roller Winner. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-02-18 | Lightning v. Bruins -138 | Top | 4-1 | Loss | -138 | 15 h 34 m | Show |
At 7:05 pm, our selection is on the Boston Bruins over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Bruins surprised the Lightning in Game 1 in Tampa, one of three road upsets in Game 1 of the second round (the others being Pittsburgh and Winnipeg). The Bolts came back in a must-win Game 2 (as did the Caps and Predators) to even the series as it heads to Boston for two games. If any team has to be worried now that home ice advantage has swung to the other team, it's the Bolts. They've performed incredibly poorly in Boston over the years as they are a woeful 7-29-3 at the last 39 meetings at TD Garden. And most of those were when the Lightning had a very good team. Now three of the next five games will be played here and that's not the situation that Tampa wanted to be in. Only two teams -- the Penguins and Jets -- scored more goals at home this season than the Bruins, and not by much. And Boston's eight regulation losses at home was the fewest such total in the Conference. The Bolts are 34-70 in their last 104 road games vs. teams with a home winning % greater than .600. Take Boston. NHL Elite Info Winner. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-01-18 | Dodgers -191 v. Diamondbacks | Top | 3-4 | Loss | -191 | 18 h 22 m | Show |
At 9:40 pm, our selection is on the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Clayton Kershaw is no doubt proud of his many accomplishments, but being on the wrong end of one of the biggest upsets in MLB history isn't one of them. In his last start, Kershaw was a -450 favorite against the Marlins and a starter named Trevor Richards. When the dust had settled, the Marlins won the game and Kershaw's record dropped to an unthinkable 1-4 on the season. The three-time Cy Young winner is no doubt glad to have April behind him and he can now focus on the rest of the season and leading the Dodgers to yet another post-season. Kershaw is 27-11 with a 2.56 ERA in 54 career starts in May (vs. 17-16 and 2.94 in April). Yet another injury to Taijuan Walker has opened up a rotation spot in Arizona for RH Matt Koch. The third-year rookie will get his third start of the season tonight, his first ever against the Dodgers. Kershaw had his best start of the young season the last time he faced the D-Backs on April 15 (12 Ks with 0 BB in 7 IP). Take the Dodgers. Mound Mismatch Massacre. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
05-01-18 | Cavs v. Raptors -6.5 | Top | 113-112 | Loss | -102 | 17 h 45 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Toronto Raptors minus the points over Cleveland. The Cavaliers were stretched to the full seven games in the first round by the #5-seeded Indiana Pacers. Now, they have to play the fairly well-rested #1 seeded Raptors, who dispatched Washington in six games. We'll lay the points with Toronto, as underdogs of +6 or more points, off a seven-game series win in Round 1, are a poor 27% ATS since 1991 in Game 1 of the 2nd round. Take Toronto minus the points. NBA Elite Info Winner. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
05-01-18 | Capitals v. Penguins -140 | Top | 4-3 | Loss | -140 | 16 h 21 m | Show |
At 7:35 pm, our selection is on the Pittsburgh Penguins over the Washington Capitals. Game two of this series pretty much followed the pattern of game one, with the Caps jumping all over the Penguins early on and the visitors staging a furious rally in third period. But this time the Caps held on to even the series as it heads back to Pittsburgh for games three and four. There was a controversial no-goal in the third period which could have swung the game to the Pens' favor, but the bottom line is that Pittsburgh has to slow down the Caps in the first period tonight and prevent them from scoring in the first few minutes as has been the case so far. With their crowd behind them, they should be able to do this and they could get another big boost tonight in the form of the return of C Evgeni Malkin. The superstar has missed the first two games with a lower body injury and the Pens could sure use his size on the front line as they've been getting a bit man-handled by the more physical -- up to this point -- Caps. Pittsburgh is 8-0 in its last eight when its opponent allowed two goals or less in the previous game, and it's 17-2 off a loss by more than a goal. Take the Pens. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
04-30-18 | Yankees v. Astros -148 | Top | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 17 h 57 m | Show |
At 8:10 pm, our selection is on the Houston Astros over the New York Yankees. With apologies to Red Sox fans, this is a series that many are looking forward to because it could very well be a preview of the ALCS. The Astros are the defending champions, but the Yankees are a lot of people's favorites to win it all yet again. Game one features a couple of veteran RHPs who are somewhat new to their teams. Both the Yanks' Sonny Gray and the Astros' Charlie Morton joined their current clubs in 2017. And while Morton has picked things up this season exactly where he left off, Gray has gotten off to a very slow start. The former darling of the Oakland A's is 1-1 with an ugly 7.71 ERA and 2.14 WHIP through five starts for the Yankees. It's too early to panic but the Bombers have to be at least a little concerned about the numbers Gray has put up to this point. Morton on the other hand has taken his game to another level, going 3-0 with a 1.86 ERA in his first five starts for the champs and he's not showing any signs of slowing down. The Yanks are 0-6 in the last six games in Houston. Take the 'Stros. Mound Mismatch Massacre. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
04-30-18 | 76ers -2 v. Celtics | Top | 101-117 | Loss | -106 | 40 h 41 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Philadelphia 76ers minus the points over Boston. The Celtics needed seven games to dispatch of the Milwaukee Bucks. Unfortunately, teams that go the full seven games generally perform poorly in Game 1 of the next round when matched up against opponents that won their series in four or five games (as Philly did vs. Miami). Since 1991, the teams that played seven games in their previous series have cashed just 33% in Game 1 vs. foes that played much shorter series. Take Philly. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
04-30-18 | Bruins v. Lightning -148 | Top | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 16 h 58 m | Show |
At 7:05 pm, our selection is on the Tampa Bay Lightning over the Boston Bruins. The Lightning lost the first game of this series as a home favorite, but they can at least take some solace that they are in good company. The Capitals and Predators also lost game one as a home favorite but came back in a must-win Game 2 situation. Only the Golden Knights won their second-round home opener (although Vegas lost game two as a heavy favorite). So here is the #1 seed in the East now with its back against that same wall in Game 2 after getting embarrassed here at Amalie Arena in Game 1 by a 6-2 score. But an important observation from Game 1 is the fact that the Bolts didn't pull Andrei Vasilevskiy from goal. The modus operandi of so many teams in the post-season is to replace the starting goalie as soon as it becomes apparent that he is having a bad game. But Tampa didn't do that, and showed confidence in its netminder, despite the fact that Vasilevskiy gave up five tallies in just 23 shots. That decision could pay huge dividends tonight. Despite their win in Game 1, the Bruins are 2-6 in their last eight road games. Take Tampa. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
04-29-18 | Jets v. Predators -160 | Top | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 15 h 19 m | Show |
At 7:05 pm, our selection is on the Nashville Predators over the Winnipeg Jets. For the second straight time in these playoffs, the Nashville Predators laid a big egg at home. They lost a potentially clinching game five here badly in the first round to the Avalanche before clinching it in Colorado. But that stumble was nothing compared to what they did in game one of this series on Friday. Out-shooting the Jets by a whopping 48-19, the Predators got spanked, 4-1 in the opening game. Goalie Pekka Rinne was replaced after he allowed three goals in the first 16 shots. If there's anything positive to take away from that performance it's that Rinne has plenty of opportunity to redeem himself. If those are the only three goals he gives up at home in this series, then it will probably be fine. Rinne knows this and he is a veteran with plenty of playoff experience -- 77 post-season games to be exact. After the mis-step at home in the Colorado series, Rinne came right back with a shutout in the next game. Don't be surprised if he does it again. Despite the win in game one, the Jets are 5-11 in the last 16 here in Nashville. Take the Preds. NHL High Roller Winner. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
04-29-18 | Cardinals -140 v. Pirates | Top | 0-5 | Loss | -140 | 10 h 45 m | Show |
At 1:35 pm, our selection is on the St. Louis Cardinals over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cardinals have prided themselves on strong starting pitching for years. And with Lance Lynn traded away and Adam Wainwright close to retirement, nobody personifies the future of St. Louis starters more than RHP Luke Weaver. Unfortunately, after a strong start to the season, Weaver has struggled in his last two outings, allowing 10 runs on 11 hits in 8 2/3 innings against the Cubs and Mets. Look for a bounce-back today against the Pirates and a starter making his MLB debut. RHP Nick Kingham has been in professional ball for eight years and he finally gets a taste of the Big Show today at age 26, two years the senior of Weaver who has been in the league since 2016. Kingham had some solid numbers in AAA this season, but overall, he has looked like an average pitcher so far. In three career games vs. the Pirates (two starts), Weaver is 1-0 with a 1.54 ERA. The Cards are 6-1 in Weaver's last seven road starts and 8-1 in his last nine starts following a team loss in the previous game. Take St. Louis. MLB Road Warrior Winner. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
04-29-18 | Pacers v. Cavs -5 | Top | 101-105 | Loss | -110 | 9 h 16 m | Show |
At 1:05 pm, our selection is on the Cleveland Cavaliers minus the points over Indiana. It's tough to make an argument against a home team in an NBA Game 7, regardless of how the first six games went. So, yes, it's absolutely true that Indiana has been the better team up to this point. The Pacers have covered five of the six games, and blew out Cleveland by 34 on Friday. But the fact remains that NBA home teams have dominated Game 7s since the dawn of NBA history (103-26 straight-up). And nothing has changed recently, either, as NBA home teams are 14-3 straight-up and 11-6 ATS since June 2013. Moreover, LeBron James has also been dominant at home in the Playoffs in games where his team was tied or trailing in the series. In his career, his teams have gone 54-15 SU and 44-25 ATS in this situation, including a perfect 3-0 SU/ATS in Game 7. Indeed, LeBron James' teams have now cashed five straight Game 7s (whether at home or on the road) since 2008, and they've covered those five games by an average of 7.1 ppg. Take the Cavaliers. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
04-28-18 | Pelicans v. Warriors -7.5 | Top | 101-123 | Win | 100 | 18 h 26 m | Show |
At 10:35 pm, our selection is on the Golden State Warriors minus the points over New Orleans. It's tough to go against a home team in Game 1 of the quarterfinals round. And especially when such home teams are priced from -8 to -11.5 points. Since 1991, these teams are 30-2 straight-up and 26-6 ATS. But that's not the best part. If they're playing an opponent off back to back SU/ATS wins, then our 26-6 stat zooms to 11-0 ATS, with the average margin of victory being 17.9 ppg. This will be a roast. Lay the points with Golden State. NBA High Roller Winner. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
04-28-18 | Bucks v. Celtics UNDER 195.5 | Top | 96-112 | Loss | -108 | 33 h 7 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the 'under' in the Boston/Milwaukee game. Over the last 28 years, in the NBA, whenever a Playoff series has gone the full seven games, it's been profitable to play on the 'under' in Game 7. And that's going to be our selection here. Indeed, the scores have declined in four of the last five games. Game 2 produced 226 points; Game 3 was 208; Game 4 generated 206; Game 5 had 179; and Game 6 ticked up slightly to 183. But even though the scores have been getting substantially less, the over/under line has not caught up to just how much the scoring has declined. Take the 'under.' NBA Elite Info Play. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
04-28-18 | White Sox v. Royals UNDER 9.5 | Top | 8-0 | Win | 100 | 1 h 3 m | Show |
At 2:15 pm, our selection is on the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals 'under' the total. This weekend's scheduled four-game series between the White Sox and Royals turned into a five-game series as the make-up for the April 1 game will be played this afternoon as the first of a double-header. The Royals are promoting RHP Trevor Oaks from AAA today to make his MLB debut in this game one. Oaks was acquired from the Dodgers in January, and he had thrown three straight quality starts for his Triple-A club already in 2018. The Sox will go with RHP Carson Fulmer who had a quality start last time out on Monday against the Mariners. Fulmer has never pitched at Kauffman Stadium or faced the Royals before in his career. The Sox hitters came out for 10 runs in Fulmer's last start, but that was at home and they haven't always been showing up for his road outings. They plated 11 runs in Fulmer's last road start (in Oakland) but only 11 total in his previous four away from Chicago (and all four of those games went under the total. The under is also 5-2-1 in the Royals last eight home games. Take the 'under.' MLB Total of the Week. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
04-28-18 | Reds v. Twins -142 | Top | 1-3 | Win | 100 | 10 h 5 m | Show |
At 2:10 pm, our selection is on the Minnesota Twins over the Cincinnati Reds. After facing the likes of the Rays, Astros, Indians, and Yankees in their last four series, if the Twins were looking for a little class relief, they probably got it with the 6-20 Cincinnati Reds. The Twins, though, dropped Game 1 of this series, and are losers of eight straight -- seven on the road. The good news for Minnesota is that it's 5-4 here at home. There's something else about the Twins that stands out with respect to this series. Some teams like playing inter-league games and some don't. Well the Twins apparently LOVE playing inter-league because coming into this game they are 11-2 in their last 13 against NL teams and 8-1 here at Target Field. RHP Jake Odorizzi gets the start and what better way for him to get out of a bit of a funk as well. Odorizzi has his only win on the season here at home, where his ERA is almost a run better than on the road (4.09 vs. 4.80). Take the Twins. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |

04-27-18 | Thunder v. Jazz UNDER 206 | Top | 91-96 | Win | 100 | 22 h 23 m | Show |
At 10:35 pm, our selection is on the 'under' in the OKC/Utah game. Utah has another chance to close out this series after failing to do so in Game 5. The good news for the Jazz is that they are back at home. I look for a low-scoring game tonight, as the last eight meetings between these two teams in Utah have gone 'under' the total when the line was less than 208 points. Also, road teams facing elimination, down 3-games-to-2 in a 7-game series, have gone 'under' the total 71% since 1991 when the line was greater than 200 points. Take the 'under.' Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |

04-27-18 | Mets -150 v. Padres | Top | 5-1 | Win | 100 | 20 h 28 m | Show |
At 10:10 pm, our selection is on the New York Mets over the San Diego Padres. When Mets ace Noah Syndergaard went down with an injury last season, the burden fell squarely on the shoulders of RHP Jacob deGrom. And deGrom responded with 15 wins, a 3.53 ERA and 239 strikeouts for a K-rate of 10.7 and K:BB ratio of 4.05. Those numbers were good enough for deGrom to finish in the top-10 in Cy Young voting. Now that Syndergaard is back -- and with what would seem to be less pressure on him -- deGrom has stepped his game even further. So far over his first five starts, all of those numbers -- with the obvious exception of wins -- is better than it was last season and deGrom has propelled himself into one of the top three or four starters in the NL. He gets a great match-up tonight for start number six, going to the mound at Petco Park where he is 2-1 with a 2.14 ERA and 0.86 WHIP in three starts. The Pads will go with LHP Clayton Richard for his sixth start of the season and San Diego is 1-5 in his last six starts vs. the Mets. Take New York. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |

04-27-18 | A's v. Astros -158 | Top | 8-1 | Loss | -158 | 18 h 28 m | Show |
At 8:10 pm, our selection is on the Houston Astros over the Oakland Athletics. About a week ago, Oakland's Sean Manaea threw MLB's first no-hitter of 2018. And he did against one of the two best offenses in the AL. His reward? His next start will be facing the other "best offense" in the Astros. And while the crafty LH accomplished his no-no in front of his home fans in Oakland, tonight Manaea will travel to Houston. Not to throw too much rain on Mr. Manaea's AL player of the week parade, but it should also be noted that the Red Sox -- for all of their offense this season -- are not hitting a lick against southpaws, batting just .209 with a meager .563 OPS so far against them. That's not the case for the 'Stros, who are hitting almost 50 points higher in that regard (.255). And speaking of southpaws, the A's will have to face one of the league's best tonight in Dallas Keuchel. Keuchel is off to a solid start with a 3.10 ERA in his first five outings and in his only home start he allowed just one ER in five innings. The Stros are 10-3 in Keuchel's last 13 starts vs. the A's who are 7-19 in the last 26 in Houston. Take the Astros. |

04-27-18 | Cavs v. Pacers UNDER 204.5 | Top | 87-121 | Loss | -110 | 20 h 53 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the 'under' in the Pacers/Cavaliers game. All five games of this playoff series have gone 'under' the total. And, dating back to the regular season, these two teams have gone 7-0-1 'under' in their last eight meetings. I certainly won't buck this trend. Take Game 6 to go 'under' the total. |
04-27-18 | Raptors v. Wizards UNDER 214.5 | Top | 102-92 | Win | 100 | 19 h 54 m | Show |
At 7 pm, our selection is on the 'under' in the Washington/Toronto game. This series started out as a very high-scoring one. The first three games averaged 231.3 ppg. But the last two games have seen a huge shift in the offensive efficiency, and have averaged just 205 ppg. I look for this trend to continue in Game 6. Take the 'under.' |
04-27-18 | Braves v. Phillies -159 | Top | 3-7 | Win | 100 | 17 h 24 m | Show |
At 7:05 pm, our selection is on the Philadelphia Phillies over Atlanta. The Braves have won four of the first six meetings this season vs. Philly. And two of those meetings featured this exact pitching match-up. Julio Teheran got the better of Aaron Nola in both of those games, but I look for Nola to turn the tables on his mound opponent tonight. All six of those games were in Atlanta, but tonight's game is in Philly. And Nola's home ERA this season is 1.80 this season, and he's given up just five earned runs in 26 innings (1.73 ERA) vs. Atlanta in front of his home faithful. Take Philly. |
04-26-18 | Brewers v. Cubs -155 | Top | 0-1 | Win | 100 | 17 h 31 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Chicago Cubs over the Milwaukee Brewers. In the Cubs' last 11 games, their offense has either been really, really good, or really, really anemic. In six of those, Chicago's line-up has scored at least eight runs. In the other five however, they have plated three or fewer. Last night was one of the latter examples as Trevor Bauer and the rest of the Indians' pitchers stymied Chicago and won the game, 4-1. So the Cubs return home for a four-game set against the Brewers hoping that their hitting returns as well. RHP Kyle Hendricks will get his fifth start of the season tonight for the Cubs and he's regressed a bit this season posting a 1-1 record, 4.09 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 22 innings so far. Perhaps a start against the Brewers will give Hendricks' season a jump start. His 16 starts and six career victories over the Crew are the most he's tallied against any team. And he has a 3.01 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 92 2/3 innings against them as well. The Cubs are 11-4 in their last 15 during game one of a series. Take Chicago. NL Central Game of the Month. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. |
04-26-18 | Celtics +5 v. Bucks | Top | 86-97 | Loss | -109 | 42 h 35 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, on Thursday, our selection is on the Boston Celtics + the points over Milwaukee. The Celtics won the pivotal Game 5 on Tuesday to take a 3-2 series lead. In the Playoffs, NBA road teams up 3 games to 2 have cashed a whopping 67% in the 1st round. Take Boston + the points. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
04-26-18 | Celtics v. Bucks UNDER 200 | Top | 86-97 | Win | 100 | 42 h 34 m | Show |
At 8:05 pm, our selection is on the Celtics and Bucks Game 6 to go 'under' the total. These two teams have played a very competitive series, as it was tied at 2 games apiece before Boston won Game 5. In the NBA playoffs, competitive series have gone 'under' 70-49 in Game 6 (that were tied at 2 games apiece). The 'under' also falls into a 72-33 Totals system of mine. Take the 'under.' 1st Round Total of the Year. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
04-25-18 | Wolves +12 v. Rockets | Top | 104-122 | Loss | -105 | 19 h 13 m | Show |
At 9:35 pm, our selection is on the Minnesota Timberwolves + the points over Houston. It's treacherous to lay more than 10 points in a Playoff game, and especially when the favored team is coming off a win in its previous playoff game vs. its opponent. Since 1991, our double-digit favorites in this situation have covered just 29 of 77 games. Take Minnesota + the points. |
04-25-18 | Jazz v. Thunder -3.5 | Top | 99-107 | Win | 100 | 19 h 13 m | Show |
At 9:35 pm, our selection is on the Oklahoma City Thunder minus the points over Utah. We played on Utah in Game 4 of this series, and were rewarded with a double-digit blowout win. But we will switch gears, and lay the points with OKC in this "do-or-die" Game 5. Indeed, home favorites down three-games-to-one in a series have covered 61.2% since 1991 off back to back losses. Lay the points with the Thunder. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie. |
04-25-18 | Maple Leafs v. Bruins -162 | Top | 4-7 | Win | 100 | 17 h 16 m | Show |
At 7:35 pm, our selection is on the Boston Bruins over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Bruins apparently like to leave things to the last minute. They played the last regular season game in the NHL on the final Sunday (the only game that day) with a chance to overtake Tampa for the top spot in the East (they didn't do it). And now they will play the final game -- and the only game seven -- of the first round of the playoffs. Toronto figured to be a tough challenge for Boston, but if the Bruins can get their offense going like they did in games one and two here at TD Garden, then they should be able to advance against to play the Lightning. The Bruins out-played and out-shot the Leafs in game six in Toronto, but simply couldn't get the puck to go in the net and lost a tough one 3-1 (with the last goal being an empty-netter). In a game seven, you have to go with the big-time post-season performers, and no one fits that bill more than Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask. Rask has a 33-26 career playoff record and a .927 post-season save percentage. The Bruins are 13-2 at home off a loss, and 7-3 off back to back losses. Take Boston. NHL Game of the Week. As always, good luck...Al McMordie |

04-25-18 | #Tigers v. #Pirates -196 | Top | 3-8 | Win | 100 | 21 h 31 m | Show |
04-25-18 | Pacers +6.5 v. Cavs | Top | 95-98 | Win | 100 | 17 h 44 m | Show |
At 7:05 pm, our selection is on the Indiana Pacers + the points over Cleveland. The Pacers have won two of the four games in this series, but have outplayed Cleveland, overall. In the four games, Indiana has outscored the Cavs, 387-374, and has covered three of the four games. The Pacers are 54-28-4 ATS off a Playoff defeat, including 21-6-3 ATS as a road underdog of +2 or more points. Meanwhile, Cleveland is 20-46-1 ATS as a favorite this season. Take the Pacers + the points. |
