Game: Atlanta Braves at Arizona Diamondbacks Apr 22 2012 4:10PM
Prediction: Arizona Diamondbacks
Grade: Winner (100)
Reason: My 10* Club-80 Play is on the Arz D’backs at 4:10 ET.
Nothing went right for the Braves to open the 2012 season, as Atlanta started 0-4, hitting just .165 as a team while scoring only 10 runs (2.5 per). However, Saturday’s 3-2 win was the team’s fifth straight and its 10th in 11 games, with the Braves batting a collective .293 with 77 runs scored (7.0 per). Randall Delgado (2-0, 4.35 ERA) has won both of his starts to open this year, after going 1-1 with a 2.83 ERA in seven starts last season (team was 4-3). The D’backs were 32 games under .500 in 2010 but in one year turned things around, going 94-68 in 2011, on the way to winning the NL West. Arizona won four straight and five of six to open its season but has since dropped SEVEN of its last nine, including FIVE in a row at home. However, there was some good news for Arizona on Saturday, as outfielder Justin Upton returned to the lineup after he missed three of the last four games with a sore thumb. Upton doubled in his first at-bat but finished 1-for-4 with two strikeouts. The better news for Arizona is that Ian Kennedy will take the mound. Kennedy was 21-4 with a 2.88 ERA in 33 starts last year, with the D’backs going 25-8 in his starts. That gave him the best moneyline mark of any starter in MLB last year, at plus-$1784. He’s 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA to open this year (team is 2-1 in his starts) and the record book reveals that he has won EIGHT consecutive decisions and is 15-1 over his last 18 regular season starts, post July 4th of last year. The team is 16-2 in those 18 games, a winning percentage of 89%! More good news comes Arizona’s way in that Kennedy is 9-0 over his last 10 outings at home (team is 9-1 ). I’m “all in” on Kennedy.
