Game: Colorado Rockies at Milwaukee Brewers Apr 22 2012 2:10PM
Prediction: Milwaukee Brewers
Grade: Loser (-150)
Reason: At 2:10 pm, our selection is on the Milwaukee Brewers over the Colorado Rockies. On a team that has had so many ups and downs over the past several seasons, righthanded starter Yovani Gallardo has been one of the most consistent performers for the Milwaukee Brewers since 2009 when he came back from a serious injury. Over the past three seasons, Gallardo has had at least 30 starts (33 in 2011) and his ERA has been 3.73, 3.84, and 3.52 while averaging right around 15 wins in each of those seasons. He wasn't consistent in his first start of 2012, but has reportedly corrected an issue in his mechanics and has turned in two straight quality starts of seven innings each against the Cubs on the road and Dodgers at home. He should be ready to do it again this afternoon at home against a starter who's been anything but consistent lately. The Rockies acquired Jeremy Guthrie from the Orioles primarily in exchange for righthander Jason Hammel and so far that trade has looked very one-sided as Guthrie has struggled his way to a 7.79 ERA and 1.67 WHIP in his first three starts and Hammel has paid huge dividends for the surprising Orioles. The Rockies are 2-7 in the last nine meetings in Milwaukee, and the Brewers are a staggering 42-8 their last 50 as favorites of -150 or more. Take the Brewers. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
