Burns' AFTERNOON ANNIHILATOR! ~ SITUATIONAL BEAUTY: Ben Burns has uncovered an ABSOLUTE BEAUTY on Sunday afternoon. Everything sets up very well and we expect him to CASH BIG with this one. Get on it!
Game: Atlanta Braves at Arizona Diamondbacks Apr 22 2012 4:10PM
Prediction: Arizona Diamondbacks
Grade: Winner (100)
Reason: I'm playing on ARIZONA. After dropping the first three games of this series, the Diamondbacks should be highly motivated to avoid the sweep here. The pitching matchup should provide an excellent opportunity for them to bounce back with an important victory. Kennedy gets the call for the Diamondbacks. Thus far, Kennedy is 2-0 with a respectable 3.86 ERA and 1.339 WHIP. In 18 2/3 innings pitched, Kennedy has an impressive 17/3 strikeout to walk ratio. While he wasn't at his best last time out, note that Kennedy has 32 victories the past 2+ seasons. That's eight more than any other Arizona pitcher. He had 21 wins last year alone and is an impressive 15-1 his last 18 starts. (He's 9-0 his last 10 at home!) Delgado is also 2-0 for the Braves. However, he's got a higher 4.36 ERA (than Kennedy) and a much worse 1.646 WHIP. He's averaging 5.2 innings per start, as compared to Kennedy's 6.2 per start. Additionally, he's allowed five walks in 10 1/3 innings, compared to Kennedy's three in 17 innings. While Delgado hasn't started against the Dbax before, Kennedy has been dominant against Atlanta. In two starts against the Braves, he has a superb 2.03 ERA including a 0.00 mark at home. His lone home start vs. Atlanta resulted in a 2-1 victory with Kennedy allowing a mere three hits through seven shutout innings. Kennedy didn't get the win there (the Braves are the only NL team he's never beaten) but obviously he pitched well enough to deserve it. While they didn't get it done as underdogs yesterday, the Dbax have been at their best as small to medium-sized home favorites. In fact, they're 26-12 (+9.6) the past couple of seasons, when listed as home favorites in the -125 to -150 range. With Kennedy continuing his winning ways at home, I expect Arizona to avoid the sweep and improve on those numbers this afternoon. *9
