Game: Boston Bruins at Washington Capitals Apr 22 2012 3:00PM
Prediction: Washington Capitals
Grade: Loser (-100)
Reason: The Capitals have a chance to send the Stanley Cup defending champs to the Golf course Sunday afternoon, barely 24 hours after being tied 2-2, and with Washington stealing one in beantown Saturday, they have taken a stranglehold on the series 3-2. If Boston is able to tie the series at 3, it will mark the 3rd straight playoff series they have played in that has gone to seven games and 4th of their last 5 playoff series. That amount of hockey can wear you down mentally and physically, and call it the Stanley Cup hangover if you want, but the Bruins have played the most games of any team in the league in that time period. Surprising rookie Breden Holtby has been the story, making the clutch saves and is top 3 in the playoffs with a .946 save %. The Capitals are no longer the run and gun team that can just out score the opposition, and have been playing, just like their coach used to, a defensive brand of hockey. With a healthy blue line led by Karl Alzner, and Mike Green. We like the Capitals, and their home advantage to capitalize on a tired Boston (most games played in the East since last season) squad, who can't seem to put away the Capitals. Every game in the series has been a one goal game and after last night, the Bruins may have very little left in the tank. We are going to bank on another Stanley Cup hangover casualty. Only two teams in the last 20 years have won back to back titles (Pitt 91&92, Detroit 97,98) and only 4 of the past 9 Cup Champs have even qualified past the first round. (Carolina failed to qualify for the post season). We will make a play against the Cup champs and take Washington to ELIMINATE the Bruins!
