Game: Vancouver Canucks at Los Angeles Kings Apr 15 2012 10:35PM
Prediction: Vancouver Canucks
Grade: Loser (-110)
Reason: Not many saw this one coming. Vancouver finished the season with the most points in the NHL at 111 and what seemed like a harmless first round opponent in Los Angeles has the Canucks against the ropes after two games. The Canucks dropped the first two games at home by identical 4-2 scores and Sunday has turned into a must win situation or it could be a much earlier end to the season than expected. Look for Vancouver to turn things around and get into the win column here. You have to give credit to Los Angeles after losing a home-and-home to San Jose to close out the regular season. The Kings came into the playoffs with very little momentum but shocked Vancouver and have a big edge in this series right now. Winning at home is far from a guarantee though as Los Angeles has lost five straight playoff games at the Staples Center over the past two years since it returned to the postseason after an eight-year playoff drought. This is the first time in the history of Vancouver hockey that it has lost two consecutive contests when starting a playoff series at home. The series is far from done though as the Canucks are using the team they lost to last season in the Stanley Cup Finals, Boston, as a means of motivation. The Bruins fell behind 2-0 after two losses on home ice before rebounding and winning the series in seven games. There is no reason to panic just yet although a loss tonight could easily change that. The Canucks were very solid on the road this season and their 53 road points were four points more than the Kings 49 points at home. Revenge is obviously in play and Vancouver has been perfect this season in this situation as it is 7-0 when playing with double-revenge. Even without revenge, the Canucks have not lost three straight games as they are a perfect 10-0 this season following back-to-back losses. They are also 13-1 this year after allowing three goals or more in consecutive games. 9* (87) Vancouver Canucks
