Game: Baltimore Orioles at Toronto Blue Jays Apr 15 2012 1:05PM
Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays
Grade: Winner (100)
Reason: 15* Play on Toronto. We backed the Orioles as a big +165 underdog in their series opening win on Friday night, but we'll fade them here and back the Blue Jays to avoid the sweep here this afternoon. Despite losing the first two games of this series the Jays offense has performed a bit better than we expected, and with extra motivation here today looking to avoid the sweep combined what we consider a big pitching edge, we look for the Jays to win this game rather easily.
Baltimore starter Brian Matusz had a "season to forget" last year, owning a 0-10 team start record in his final ten starts of the 2011 campaign (0-9 record), and he picked up this year where he left off last season, getting shelled for four runs in as many innings in his first outing against the Yankees. Even worse, Matusz has made three career starts against Baltimore and has yet to make it out of the third inning. He allowed 5 ER's in 2 2/3 innings in his first career start, followed by a six ER's in 1 2/3 innings outing, then had to leave after the first inning (scoreless) after being hit by a line drive.
Toronto counters with Kyle Drabek who was impressive against Boston last week, allowing just one run on three hits over 5 1/3 innings in the Jays 7-3 win. Drabek doesn't need to be great here - just good enough to get through the first few innings as Matusz' history suggests Toronto should be able to put some runs on the board early. That's exactly what we expect here as Toronto cruises to an easy win! 15* Play on Toronto.
