BIG AL's SATURDAY AFTERNOON MLB WINNER!: Al McMordie cashed in Baseball on Friday, as he won with the Washington Nationals. For Saturday, Big Al's STEPPING OUT with an AFTERNOON BLOWOUT backed by strong pitching stats. This will be a wire-to-wire winner. Get on it.
Game: New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies Apr 14 2012 4:05PM
Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies
Grade: Loser (-135)
Reason: At 4:05 pm, our selection is on the Philadelphia Phillies over the New York Mets. If you need to find the likely key to the Phillies' success this season, you probably don't need to look any further than the back end of their rotation. Everyone knows the talent level of Halladay, Lee, and Hamels in the top three spots, but it's Joe Blanton and today's starter, righthander Vance Worley, who will likely determine whether - and by how many games - this team wins the NL East for the sixth straight year. It's Worley who gets the call this afternoon in his second start of the season and first at Citizens Bank Park and although he picked up in his first start in Pittsburgh right where he left off 2011 - which means he pitched brilliantly - his team did not reward him with a victory. He'll go for his first of the season this afternoon and based on last season's numbers, he stands a much better chance of getting it as in 12 starts at home in 2011, Worley went 6-1 with a 2.34 ERA (as opposed to 5-2 and 3.84 on the road). Worley knows the Mets very well, as he made more appearances against them last year than any other team, and he did very well against them going 3-1 with a 3.13 ERA in five outings (four starts) covering 23 innings. Take the Phils. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
