Game: St Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers Apr 6 2012 4:10PM
Prediction: Milwaukee Brewers
Grade: Loser (-125)
Reason: 20* Play on Milwaukee. Excellent spot to back the Brewers here on opening day, as they not only get a chance to avenge their series loss to the Cardinals from last postseason, but we also have a matchup of two pitchers that were excellent in their home ballparks, but not nearly as good away from home. Revenge factor and backing Gallardo here on his home turf is a great handicapping spot, and the extremely small price is a bonus.
Both teams will have a major piece of their offense missing from last year, with Albert Pujols leaving the Cardinals and Prince Fielder leaving the Brewers in the offseason, and that puts an extra emphasis on this pitching matchup while these teams figure out how to make up the loss of production in the middle of the order.
Jamie Garcia was great at home last year, owning a 9-4 record and 2.55 ERA with teams hitting just .230 against him. But on the road he was not the same guy, going 4-3 with a 4.61 ERA and hitters batting .313 against him. Gallardo was similar in style for the Brewers, having much better numbers here at home where he went 10-2 with a 3.00 ERA. And even last year, Garcia allowed 13 runs (9 earned) in just nine innings of work in the two games played here in Milwaukee. Also of note is the Brewers 25-7 mark at home in day games, and we look for Milwaukee to get the frustration out of last year's postseason woes on Garcia on the Cards today! 20* Play on Milwaukee.
