Game: Texas at Cincinnati Mar 16 2012 12:15PM
Prediction: Cincinnati
Grade: Winner (100)
Reason: Texas vs. Cincinnati – (12:15 pm EST) the Longhorns and Bearcats opened their NCAA Tournament play with a first round game in Nashville. After beating Iowa State in the Big 12 conference opened they were taken out by Missouri 81-67. That was a good game for us as we had a big play on Missouri. Anyway, Texas hasn’t shown us much this season especially away from home where they are 5-10 SU and only 6-9 ATS. Early in the year they lost to NC State and Oregon State in tournament action. Just before Christmas they went to North Carolina and were blowout by the Tar Heels 82-63. In conference play their only road wins were against Big 12 bottom feeders Texas A&M by a bucket, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech. Not very impressive. One of the reasons they play so poorly away from home is that they forget to play defense allowing opponents to shoot 47% from the floor. Texas can’t overcome their weak defense as their offensive is very average shooting 43% from the field and 32% from 3-point range. Meanwhile, Cincinnati enters the tournament after losing to Louisville in the Big East Tourney Championship 50-44. They had beaten Pitino already once this season (three straight times overall) and it was just Louisville’s day. Despite losing that game they allowed Louisville only 35% shooting. Prior to that game Cincinnati had knocked off Georgetown and Syracuse! The Bearcats have been a good team to play on this season on the road with a 11-4 ATS mark and we think they’ll extend that winning run today over Texas. Cincinnati plays an aggressive zone defense that will provide fits for Texas and they should have no trouble scoring against this weak Texas defense after playing against some rugged Big East defensive units. Play on Cincinnati.
