Game: Florida Panthers at New Jersey Devils Apr 24 2012 7:35PM
Prediction: New Jersey Devils
Grade: Winner (100)
Reason: At 7:35 pm, our selection is on the New Jersey Devils over the Florida Panthers. Although the Panthers got the third seed in the Eastern Conference - and along with it, home ice advantage in this series - by virtue of them winning the weak Southeast Division for the first time ever, most people figured them to be the underdog and expected that the Devils would advance to the second round. But give Florida some credit as it has battled hard in this series and has a 3-2 lead and so New Jersey finds itself in a must-win situation tonight in order to force a game seven back in the Sunshine State. It is perhaps a bit ironic that after losing their #1 goalie (Tomas Vokoun) in the off-season to free agency (Washington), two of the biggest stars for the Panthers in this series has been the net-minding tandem of veterans Jose Theodore and Scott Clemmensen. But the Panthers are banged up going into game six, especially on the back line with defensemen Jason Garrison and Keaton Ellerby doubtful for tonight's game and not likely to be making an appearance. Despite their success in this series, the Panthers are 18-42-3 in the last 63 meetings, and they're also a poor 23-53 on the road off a win by more than 2 goals. Take the Devils. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
