Game: Washington Nationals at San Diego Padres Apr 24 2012 10:05PM
Prediction: Washington Nationals
Grade: Winner (100)
Reason: Washington at San Diego – Washington starts a six game road trip tonight in San Diego. The Nationals are playing good baseball to start the season with a 12-4 record. They give the ball to Gonzalez tonight who will be making his fourth start of the season. After a rocky opening day start in Chicago, the lefty has been sparkling in his last two starts not allowing a run in 14 innings of work. He will be making his first career start against the Padres. San Diego is off to a slow start with a 5-12 record, however they come into tonight’s game riding a two game winning streak. They send Richard to the hill tonight and the Padre lefty hasn’t pitched very well to start the season with a 5.89 ERA. We don’t look for that to change as Richard has a 2-13 team start record over the past two seasons when pitching in night games. We’re backing Gonzalez as a short favorite as he has pitched his team to an impressive 29-9 record when pitching as a favorite over the past two seasons. We also note that SD is 6-18 against a pitcher with a WHIP of 1.250 or better (Gonzalez has a WHIP of .0905). Look for the Padre bats to be silent again tonight against this tough lefty as SD is 1-6 so far this season against southpaws hitting only .188. Our NL Non-Division Game of the Month is on Washington.
