Game: Florida Panthers at New Jersey Devils Apr 24 2012 7:35PM
Prediction: New Jersey Devils
Grade: Winner (100)
Reason: We won with the Rangers last night as they were in a must win situation and we will back the Devils tonight for that same reason. New Jersey is down 3-2 in this series and needs a win to force a Game Seven on Thursday which would take place in Florida. This price may seem high but in actuality, it really isn't. This number falls right in line with the first two games played in New Jersey and a lot of times we tend to see the lines get inflated because of these must win situations and that is not the case here. Florida is coming off a great effort to take the series lead as after it was shutout out on Game four 4-0, the Panthers returned the favor with a 3-0 shutout at home. They have been extremely solid at home all season but the road has been a different story. The Panthers 17 road wins in regulation were tied for the second fewest in the NHL among playoff teams and while they did split the first two games in New Jersey in this series, it took a four-goal rally to win Game Three and don't expect that to happen again. New Jersey finished with eight more points than the Panthers during the regular season so they were definitely the better team but playing in an extremely tough division hurt as they were forced into the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. They key tonight is shooting the puck more to get more rebound opportunities as Panthers goalie Jose Theodore is known for letting pucks loose. He is coming off that shutout but Florida is just 1-3 in its previous four games when coming off a shutout win. As a matter of fact, Florida is 9-30 against the moneyline in its last 39 games coming off a home shutout win while this season it is 4-14 against the moneyline after playing a game where three or fewer total goals were scored. The Devils meanwhile are 19-6 against the moneyline this season revenging a loss while going 40-18 against the moneyline in their last 58 games as a favorite. Florida is just 8-21-1 in its last 30 games in New Jersey and that skid is extended after tonight. 7* (68) New Jersey Devils
