Game: Boston Celtics at Charlotte Hornets Apr 15 2012 6:05PM
Prediction: Charlotte Bobcats
Grade: Loser (-110)
Reason: Boston remains in the drivers seat in the Atlantic Division as it has a 3.5-game lead over the Sixers and has clinched a playoff spot. The Celtics lost in Toronto on Friday but bounced back with a win in New Jersey last night. This now makes it three games in three nights which is a tough situation for any team, let alone a team like the Celtics which are loaded with old players. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett both topped 30 minutes the last two nights and it wouldn't be surprising to see one of them sit out tonight. There is no denying that Charlotte is a horrible team. The Bobcats have lost 15 straight games so asking them to win here may be a stretch but we are obviously more concerned about the point spread and it is a big one. Charlotte has been a strong fade when the line has been low as it is 6-17 in its 23 games when the line is 6.5 points or fewer but it is a much more respectable 15-20 when it is getting seven or more points. That record is still not great but well within range here. The Celtics picked up their first win of the season when playing with no rest in consecutive road games as they were 0-4 straight up and ATS prior to Saturday. Don't expect them to make it two straight wins against the number especially laying this wood on the road as they are 4-8 ATS as road favorites on the season. Three weeks ago, Boston was favorite at Charlotte by 6.5 points and now the line has risen considerably despite this being a much worse spot. Charlotte falls into a very solid contrarian situation here as well as we play on underdogs of 3.5 to 9.5 points after eight or more consecutive losses and now playing their 3rd game in four days. This situation is 63-33 ATS (65.6 percent) since 1996. The Celtics are just 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games against teams with a losing home record and they have covered just once in the last five meetings in this series. Look for a strong effort from the home team against a tired Celtics squad. 9* (512) Charlotte Bobcats
