Game: Vancouver Canucks at Los Angeles Kings Apr 15 2012 10:35PM
Prediction: Vancouver Canucks
Grade: Loser (-110)
Reason: At 10:35 pm, our selection is on the Vancouver Canucks over the Los Angeles Kings. The Canucks won the Presidents Trophy - the annual award for having the best record in the NHL regular season - for the second straight year, thereby guaranteeing them home ice advantage througout the post-season. That home ice didn't do them much good in the first two games of the Conference Quarterfinals as the Kings shocked the Canucks in front of the Vancouver faithful by identical scores of 4-2 in games one and two, making the Canucks 0-3 in their last three home playoff games (they lost game seven of the 2010-2011 finals at home to the Bruins). So with their situation very much like that of the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Canucks have to find a way to bounce back otherwise they will be joining the Penguins on the golf course this Spring a little earlier than they had hoped. If there's good news for Vancouver, it's the fact that the road teams have done very well so far in the NHL playoffs, with teams playing away from home going 10-5 so far in all of the first round games combined. That's remarkable considering that home teams in the regular season won far more then 50% of the time. And more good news for Vancouver: it's a perfect 10-0 this year off back to back losses, as well as 13-1 after surrendering 3+ goals in back-to-back games. Vancouver's also a perfect 7-0 this season when playing with double-revenge. Take the Canucks. As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
