Sam Martin's 20* MLB "PERFECT PITCH" WINNER *early: The Whiz Kid pulled out a late winner on the underdog Dodgers last night, but still had a dismal Friday overall. Sam looks to get back to his winning ways before yesterday's setback (was on a 5-1 run before yesterday), and this afternoon he's offering his 20* MLB "PERFECT PITCH" at the special discounted price of JUST $30!!
Game: Boston Red Sox at Detroit Tigers Apr 7 2012 4:05PM
Prediction: Boston Red Sox
Grade: Loser (-105)
Reason: 20* Play on Boston. We sweated out a winner on Detroit Thursday, as Verlander shut down the Red Sox but two Boston runs in the ninth innings made the Tigers work a little harder than they should have, eventually scoring in the bottom of the ninth for the 3-2 victory. We'll back Boston behind Josh Beckett this afternoon to even the series as we expect the Boston lineup to perform much better with Verlander no longer standing in their way.
Beckett knows how tough Verlander is, as both of his starts against Detroit last season came against the Cy Young winner. Still, Beckett hung in there, allowing just three runs combined in those two starts (in 12 IP) and managed a 1-1 team start record split. He'll have a much easier time today going against Doug Fister.
Fister is making his debut for the Tigers here, and last April he did not get off to a great start with three straight losses. Obviously, the lack of offensive support didn't help him much, but it's not like he faced good offenses either in Oakland, Cleveland, and Kansas City. Here he'll face a Boston lineup that is eager to get going after being shutdown by Verlander in the opener, and with a day of rest on top of it. Offense was scarce for both teams in the opener, but we look for Boston to jump out to an early lead and for Beckett to deliver another solid outing against these Tigers as the Red Sox net their first win of the season! 20* Play on Boston.
