Game: Los Angeles Lakers at Los Angeles Clippers Apr 4 2012 10:35PM
Prediction: Los Angeles Clippers
Grade: Loser (-110)
Reason: The Clippers are once again playing very well as they have won six straight games, which is the most in two decades, and they are keeping pace with the Lakers in the Pacific Division, now just one and a half games back. This is the third meeting between the two Los Angeles teams this season with a split taking place thus far. The 'home team' has won both times as well as five straight times going back to last season. Even though it is the same home floor for both teams, the home court distinction plays a big part. This may not be considered a true road game for the Lakers since there has been no travel involved but they have not fared well playing the role of visitor in this series, losing four of the last five meetings when playing in road purple. They have been able to stay ahead of the Clippers as they have won three in a row but those wins came against New Orleans, Golden St. and New Jersey, none of which will be in the playoffs and all of those games were closer than expected. The Lakers have covered just once in their last 11 games and the overvalued lines have done them in as has the continued inconsistent play. Even though they have been winning, it has been a struggle to do so as they have been playing down to the competition. They have also struggled against the top teams in the NBA as they are just 7-8 against teams ranked within the top ten in the power ratings while going only 15-13 against the top 16. The Clippers meanwhile are 18-10 against the top 16. The Lakers are 1-4 ATS in five games this season when playing with no rest after the first game took place at home. While that may seem moot here because of the no travel, it isn't. The Lakers rotation has played a ton of minutes this season as Kobe Bryant, Andrew Bynum, and Pau Gasol are all in the top ten in the league in minutes played. Winning does not breed confidence either as the Lakers are 0-7 ATS in their last seven games following a win. 9* (724) Los Angeles Clippers
