BIG AL's SLAPSHOT CLUB: SATURDAY NHL TOTALS WINNER: Al McMordie passed Friday in Hockey (though he won on the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA), but he's 54-27 his last 81 on the ice, and 17-7 his last 24 NHL Totals plays. Today, Big Al's stepping out with a Hockey Over/Under backed by 2 winning situations. Pick it up right now, and light the lamp on Saturday!
Game: New Jersey Devils at Carolina Hurricanes Mar 31 2012 7:05PM
Grade: Push (0)
Reason: At 7:05 pm, our selection is on the New Jersey Devils and Carolina Hurricanes 'over' the total. With their 4-3 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Friday the Carolina Hurricanes are now officially eliminated from the NHL post-season. If you're wondering why the Canes won't be playing past next week, you needn't look any further than their 232 goals allowed through their first 77 games. That averages to 2.88 goals allowed per game this season and that number is the seventh-highest in the NHL. The Devils on the other hand are still alive for a playoff spot despite just a fourth-place standing currently in their division, but they can take some solace in the fact that the Atlantic is without question the toughest division in the Eastern Conference. New Jersey also must be licking its chops at a chance to get back to Raleigh where it lost a 4-2 decision in the last meeting between these two on December 26. These two teams have combined for at least 5 goals in seven straight games, and nine of their last 10 meetings (5-2 'over' with 3 pushes). Also, Carolina has gone 'over' in 43 of 74, and I look for a high-scoring game this evening. Take the 'over.' As always, good luck...Al McMordie.
