Game: Ohio State at Kansas Mar 31 2012 8:45PM
Prediction: Ohio State
Grade: Loser (-110)
Reason: I'm laying the points with Ohio State on Saturday. The Buckeyes are in a revenge situation in this one, but it's not like Ohio State needs any extra motivation to play in a Final-4 tilt. When these teams met in December, Thad Matta announced Jared Sullinger would miss the game at Allen Fieldhouse, shortly before the game tipped-off. The Buckeyes looked a bit shell-shocked and Kansas "canned" over 58% of their shots in a 78-67 win. KU ran their pick-and-rolls at will and when nothing was open inside the lane, they stood on the perimeter and nailed shot-after-shot. I suspect the Jayhawks will struggle with their bread-and-butter pick-and-rolls now that the Buckeyes are healthy and playing a nasty brand of defense. OSU is the best defensive team in the Final-4, allowing less than 60 ppg on 40.6% shooting. OSU has allowed just 17 combined assists, while forcing 30 combined turnovers in their last two games against Syracuse and Cincinnati. That's something worthy of noting, because KU's playmaker, Tyshawn Taylor has gotten careless with the basketball several times this season, including an 8-turnover game when these two met (without Sullinger) in December. I expect Ohio State's size on the offensive end to cause Kansas a lot of trouble. The Buckeyes "go big" from the perimeter and they'll certainly challenge the Jayhawk backcourt on a consistent basis. Kansas has not enjoyed the Big-10's style of play. They're on a 2-11 ATS slide when they venture into this physical conference. And KU has covered just one of their last five as a dog of less than 7 points. Meanwhile, the Buckeyes are on 73% ATS run the last 11 times as a neutral site favorite. I'm laying the points with Ohio State on Saturday night, Thanks! GL! Scott.
