Game: Dallas Stars at Edmonton Oilers Mar 28 2012 9:35PM
Prediction: Dallas Stars
Grade: Winner (100)
Reason: Dallas is right in the thick of the Western Conference playoff run as six teams are within three points of each other for three remaining spots for the postseason. The Stars are coming off a loss at Calgary on Monday and they dropped from leading the Pacific Division to seventh place after San Jose defeated Colorado 5-1 later that night. With the next three games against Vancouver and San Jose twice on deck, this game has turned into an extremely important one for Dallas to win. It won't be as easy as in the past against Edmonton as the Oilers are playing some of their best hockey of the season but that sets this up well for value purposes on top of the must win scenario. Edmonton is coming off a four-game roadtrip where it went 3-0-1 and it is now 5-0-2 over its last seven games which is its best run since 2005 which shows how rare of a run this has been. The Oilers are 18-15-5 at home which is respectable but the 41 home points are the third fewest in the Western Conference. Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen is coming off a very rare poor performance against the Flames as he allowed four goals but the Oilers provide a great chance to rebound. He is 2-0-0 with a 1.00 GAA against them this season and his 2.28 GAA on the season is ninth best in the league while his .923 save percentage is seventh best among qualified leaders. The Oilers are coming off a six-goal performance against Columbus last time out but they are just 3-5-1 this year after scoring five or more goals. Dallas is 15-4 this season when playing with a day of rest coming off a loss so it has been great in these bounceback situations. Also, the Star are 10-3 in their last 13 road games coming off a loss by one goal. They have taken the first three games of this season series which sets up a revenge spot for the Oilers but they have been worthless in these situations as they are 4-22 in their last 26 games revenging a home loss of two goals or more. Edmonton is 0-4 in its last four games as a home underdog. 9* (7) Dallas Stars
