Game: Vancouver Canucks at Chicago Blackhawks Mar 21 2012 8:05PM
Prediction: Vancouver Canucks
Grade: Loser (-100)
Reason: Chicago has been on a hot run, going 8-1-1 over its last 10 games to move into sixth place in the Western Conference and trailing Nashville and Detroit by just two points. The Blackhawks offense has been leading the way with 14 goals over their last three games but the defense should not be overshadowed as they have allowed two goals or less in regulation in six of those recent 10 games. Chicago is 4-0-1 in its last five home games but three of those wins came by just one goal or by way of a shootout. Vancouver is not playing very well and even though it has essentially locked up the second seed in the Western Conference, the goal is to build momentum. The Canucks have struggled during their current 3-5-2 stretch and after a poor homestand, they opened a four-game roadtrip with a 2-0 loss at Minnesota. That was just the fourth time they have been shutout this season and the first since October. Vancouver won all three of its previous games after getting shutout and by a combined score of 16-8. The last thing the Canucks want or need to do is limp into the playoffs. "We're always looking for wins," said captain Henrik Sedin. "It's about playing our game and trusting that our system is going to win us games and not individual efforts. We have to realize that wins are the most important thing here." Vancouver is 22-11-4 on the road this season and the 48 points are the most in the Western Conference by a wide margin. The 22 regulation road wins are tied for second most in the NHL. Playing the role of small favorite to a pickem to an underdog should get them fired up as the Canucks have been heavy favorites the majority of the time all season. They fall into a great league-wide situation where we play on favorites against the money line in the 2nd half of the season with a goalie with a save percentage of .915 or better and coming off five straight games with 30 or more shots on goal. This situation is 49-8 (86 percent) over the last five seasons. 10* (57) Vancouver Canucks
