Game: Washington Capitals at Detroit Red Wings Mar 19 2012 7:35PM
Prediction: Detroit Red Wings
Grade: Loser (-165)
Reason: Detroit is back home and it could not have come at a better time. The Red Wings are coming off a four-game roadtrip where they dropped all four games including the last one in overtime at San Jose. That dropped them to 16-20-2 on the highway but things are certainly much better at home. Detroit is 28-4-2 at home and it is currently tied with Nashville for fourth place in the Western Conference with 92 points. As good as its home ice is, Detroit needs to get into fourth place alone for the upcoming playoffs. Washington is sitting in eighth place in the Eastern Conference with 78 points, two points clear of Winnipeg and Buffalo so every game counts for the Capitals as well. After winning four straight games, Washington has dropped two straight, both coming on the road. It is pretty similar to Detroit as playing at home is a big advantage as the Capitals are 23-10-3 at home but just 13-20-3 on the road. Washington is 1-10 in its last 11 games as a road underdog between +110 and +150. This is the second and final meeting this season and even though the first meeting was all the way back in early October, the Red Wings will be out for some payback. Detroit lost in Washington 7-1 which was its first loss of the season after a 5-0 start. It still is its worst loss of the season so payback will be in order tonight. The home team has won the last six meetings while the favorite has taken the last seven meetings and going back further, Washington is just 6-15-1 in the last 22 meetings in Detroit. Detroit falls into a very solid league-wide situation as well as we play against road underdogs against the money line after two or more consecutive losses going up against an opponent after three or more consecutive losses. This situation is 193-75 (72 percent) since 1996. Washington is 2-10 in its 12 road games this season coming off a road loss while going 1-3 this year playing with no rest coming off a loss. Detroit is 18-4 in its 22 home games this season coming off a game that went under the number. 8* (58) Detroit Red Wings
