Game: Los Angeles Kings at Anaheim Ducks Mar 16 2012 10:05PM
Prediction: Anaheim Ducks
Grade: Loser (-100)
Reason: I'm playing on ANAHEIM. This game is very important for the Kings. However, its even more so for the Ducks. Desperate for points and off an impressive shutout victory, I expect the Ducks to be at their best here. Despite being quite far back and knowing the odds are against them, the Ducks aren't giving up yet. Off a shutout win last time out, goalie Jonas Hiller had this to say: "All we can do is win as many games as possible. You have to take care of it on our end, and hope thatís going to be enough." Speaking of Hiller, note that he's now 6-1 with a stellar 1.55 goals-against average over his last seven home starts. Hliller has also been outstanding against the Kings at home over the course of his career, going 7-2 with a 1.66 GAA and two shutouts. As a team, note that the Ducks are 51-36 (+13.8) the last 80+ times that they were off a shutout victory, including 9-4 (+6) their last 13 in that situation. During that stretch, the Kings (who are off a 5-2 win) are just 36-40 (-12.2) after scoring four or more goals in their previous game. The Kings are still below .500 (33-37) vs. the moneyline. That's noteworthy as the Ducks are 11-4 (+5.4) their last 15 against teams below .500 vs. the ML. Going back further finds them at a lucrative 32-13 (+15.5) against teams with a losing ML record, during the second half of the season. With their backs against the wall, I expect them to improve on those stats here. *9
