Game: Chicago Blackhawks at Dallas Stars Mar 16 2012 8:35PM
Prediction: Dallas Stars
Grade: Loser (-125)
Reason: We played against Phoenix last night as it was unable to gain any ground on Dallas in the Pacific Division and tonight we will be playing on the Stars as they try to extend their two-point lead over the Coyotes. Dallas is coming off a loss against Winnipeg on Wednesday as the Stars were playing the second of back-to-back games, while the Jets had the benefit of four days off. It snapped a 10-0-1 run for the Stars and a return home should put them in position to start another run. The Blackhawks are coming off a shootout win over the Western Conference leading Blues on Tuesday which was a revenge win after they lost in St. Louis 5-1 in their most recent road game. They had won back-to-back road games prior to that over Detroit and Ottawa and overall they have been below average on the highway, going 14-18-3 on the season. Chicago isn't far from falling out of the playoffs altogether as it is just four points out of ninth place but this is a bad spot to increase the gap. While Chicago is not safe, the Stars are even worse off despite owning the division lead. They are in third place in the Western Conference because of that but are only two points out of seventh place where Phoenix sits and just three points out of ninth place. This is the first of four straight home games and points are a must on home ice where Dallas is 20-12-3 on the season and has not lost in regulation since February 19th. Five of its final seven games are on the road making this homestand even more important. Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews will miss his 12th consecutive game tonight which should give the Stars defense an edge. Over his last nine starts, Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen is 8-0-1 with a 1.29 GAA and .955 save percentage while posting three shutouts. Chicago falls into a negative situation as well as we play against underdogs that are revenging a home loss of two goals or more, while coming off a win by one goal over a division rival. This situation is 37-7 (84.1 percent) over the last five seasons. 9* (6) Dallas Stars
