Game: Alabama at Creighton Mar 16 2012 1:40PM
Prediction: Creighton
Grade: Winner (100)
Reason: Creighton came into the season unranked and eventually made it up 13th in the AP Poll before a three-game losing streak knocked the Bluejays back out of the polls. Since then they have won seven straight games including three in the Missouri Valley Tournament to claim the championship. They are now back up to 19th in the polls and they boast a 24 RPI which is higher than the Crimson Tide's RPI of 35 yet Creighton comes in as the underdog which is wrong. Alabama finished strong despite losing to Mississippi in its season finale as it won its previous four game before that. The Crimson Tide opened 2-4 in the SEC but a 7-3 finish is what got them into the tournament as a ninth seed. If the adage defense wins championships holds true, then the Crimson Tide are in excellent shape but the problem is that their offense is not very good so anything resembling a shootout will put them behind the eight-ball. This game is a huge contrast in styles as it is a matchup between Creighton's efficient offense and Alabama's efficient defense. Alabama ranks ninth in adjusted defensive efficiency and it is ranked in the top 50 in two-point defense, three-point defense, steal percentage, and block percentage. The Tide allowed 70 points only three times which is pretty spectacular. The Bluejays however have the offense that can negate it as they are fourth in the country in adjusted efficient offense. Creighton is third in both two-point and three-point shooting and it doesn't turn the ball over which is important against a team like Alabama. On the other side, the Bluejays struggle to defend the long ball but no need to worry here as Alabama is shooting a horrid 28.3 percent from long range. The Bluejays are 21-10 ATS in their last 31 games against teams allowing 64 ppg or fewer so they know how to handle these situations. They have covered all four games as underdogs this season and keep that alive Friday. 10* (830) Creighton Bluejays
