Game: San Jose Sharks at Edmonton Oilers Mar 12 2012 9:35PM
Prediction: San Jose Sharks
Grade: Winner (100)
Reason: The time has come for San Jose to get back on track and make a playoff push. The Sharks have lost five straight games and have won only two of their last 13 games, going 2-8-3 and those seven points gained have dropped them into 11th place in the Western Conference standings. The good news is that they are just one point out of an eighth place tie so they are still very much in the hunt. San Jose looks to snap a four-game winless streak on the road where it is 14-14-6 on the year. The season has been long done for Edmonton as all it is doing now is playing spoiler. The Oilers are 26-35-7 on the season and they have only one win over their last six games and that happened to come in a shootout in San Jose so the Sharks will be involved in a revenge situation as well. Edmonton has been much better at home this season but it is 0-4-0 in its last four home games and 1-6-1 in its last eight games on home ice. All six of those regulation losses have been by at least two goals. As mentioned, the Sharks will be out for some payback as it not only lost the last meeting at home but it lost the previous meeting right here in Edmonton, also by way of a shootout. They have lost three of four meetings this season overall on top of that. San Jose falls into a great league-wide revenge situation as we play on road teams when the money line is -100 to -150 revenging a home loss, off a road loss by three goals or more. This situation is 35-13 (72.9 percent) over the last five seasons. San Jose lost in Phoenix Saturday 3-0 and it has been great the last couple years when responding to big losses as it is 13-3 in its last 16 games coming off a road loss by three or more goals. Another situation comes into play as we play on road teams when the money line is -100 to -150 after a loss by three goals or more going up against an opponent after a loss by one goal in their previous game. This situation is 44-15 (74.6 percent) over the last five seasons. 9* (5) San Jose Sharks
