Game: Notre Dame at St. Johns Feb 25 2012 12:00PM
Prediction: St. Johns
Grade: Winner (100)
Reason: Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach NCAAB Saturday 8* (Regular Play) on St. John’s vs. Notre Dame @ 12 p.m. ET
Notre Dame is taking the Big East by storm, winning nine straight games and going a bountiful 8-1 ATS in that span, most recent dismantling the West Virginia Mountaineers in a 71-44 victory as a 2.5-point home favorite. While it’s a good time to be a fan of the Fighting Irish, Saturday’s date with the St. John’s Red Storm is the best time to sell Notre Dame while its spreads are inflated. The Johnnies, the youngest program in the Big East, are starting to figure things out after a long and trying season. Unlike many programs, the Red Storm have not given up on a lost year, with back-to-back SU and ATS wins heading into the weekend. St. John’s toppled the UCLA Bruins in a non-conference showdown last weekend and followed that with a 79-72 win over the DePaul Blue Demons as 5-point favorites Monday. The Irish’s methodical tempo plays into the Johnnies strengths. The Red Storm play a passive style due to their short bench and limited scoring options. And, St. John’s has been a thorn in the side of Notre Dame, especially when the Fighting Irish are ranked. The last three times the Irish visited Madison Square Garden to play the Johnnies as a ranked program, they lost. In fact, St. John’s is 6-2 ATS in its past eight meetings with Notre Dame, holding a 4-1 ATS advantage over the Irish in New York City. The cavernous confines of MSG will wreak havoc on Notre Dame’s perimeter attack, which shot just under 57 percent from beyond the arc versus WVU. The Irish are a long way from South Bend Saturday.
Play on St. John’s as an 8* Regular Selection Saturday.
Good luck, Scott
