Game: St. Marys at San Francisco Feb 25 2012 11:00PM
Prediction: San Francisco
Grade: Loser (-110)
Reason: Play on San Francisco at 11:00 ET. The Dons have always been kind to us, so why not back them in a big spot against WCC leader St. Mary's, who we happened to go against w/ last Saturday's big play. The Gaels came back to rout sorry Portland on the road Thursday, 70-43, but playing a third straight road game to end the regular season, including a second in three nights is something we want no part of. USF did St. Mary's a big favor last weekend, beating Gonzaga 66-65 as a five-point home dog. It was the Dons' seventh ATS win in a row overall. Their only two SU Losses during that stretch came by a combined three points. They are 21-9 ATS when taking points L2 seasons. The setup is perfect here w/ San Francisco having had all week off to avoid a potential letdown while this is SMU's second road game in three nights. The Gaels had lost two in a row prior to beating Portland. They are 1-8 ATS off a cover as a double digit favorite. This is a big revenge spot for the Dons, on Senior Night no less, as they lost the first meeting w/ St. Mary's when they themselves were caught playing a second road game in three nights (played at BYU two nights prior). Gaels HC Randy Bennett has been concerned over his team's defense and he should be w/ Steven Holt OUT here. Holt, the team's best defender, went for a near triple double in that first meeting. San Francisco comes in averaging 79.1 PPG at home this season. This is their third consecutive home game, which has seen them play the other two WCC heavyweights to a pair of one-point games, and as mentioned previously its Senior Night. San Francisco is our 25* WCC Game of the Year.
