Game: Colorado Avalanche at Winnipeg Jets Feb 19 2012 8:35PM
Prediction: Winnipeg Jets
Grade: Winner (100)
Reason: Both of these teams are still in the hunt for the playoffs as Winnipeg sits two points out of the eighth place spot while the Avalanche are three points out of the final slot in the Western Conference. With that being the case, there will be no lack of motivation on either side but we give the edge to the home side here. Winnipeg is coming off a huge win Friday over the Bruins to move to 17-9-2 at home on the season. The Jets are just three points out of first place in the Southeast Division. Colorado is coming off a win on Friday as well but it came against Edmonton which has the second fewest points in the entire NHL. It was a rare road win for the Avalanche which are 1-3-1 in their last five road games and after starting the season 6-0 on the highway, Colorado is just 7-13-3 over its last 23 games away from home. The Avalanche have scored more than three goals on the road only once in 2012, a span of 12 games and for the season they are averaging only 2.5 gpg on the road. Stopping opponents has been the strength of Winnipeg at home as it is allowing only 2.2 gpg at home and its 61 total goals allowed is tied for fifth fewest in the entire league. The offense of the Jets has been clicking of late following a lengthy drought. They have reached the four-goal mark in three of their last four games after being limited to two or fewer in seven of their previous eight games. Winnipeg is converting on 19.8 percent of its power plays at home, seventh best in the NHL. This is a revenge game for Colorado which lost at home to the Jets back in December but road revenge is difficult with the home/road dichotomies of these two teams. Colorado is just 11-29 in its 40 games in the second half of the season over the last two years against teams allowing 29.5 shots per game while going 7-15 in its last 22 games as a road underdog. The Jets meanwhile are 8-2 in their last 10 games as a home favorite between -110 and -150 while going 5-1 in their last six games against the Western Conference. 9* (18) Winnipeg Jets
