Game: Michigan State at Purdue Feb 19 2012 1:00PM
Grade: Loser (-110)
Reason: With Ohio St. losing yesterday, Michigan St. is now in the drivers seat in the Big Ten as it has a half-game lead over the Buckeyes and the Wolverines and maybe more importantly, has wins cover both of those teams already. That makes this a pretty important game for the Spartans to keep hold of that spot in first place but this line is way too steep for them to be laying on the road. They are 16-0 at home but just 5-3 on the highway, including a 3-3 record in the Big Ten. Purdue meanwhile has been up and down this season. It has won two straight games to move back over .500 in the Big Ten and according to early projections for the Big Dance, the Boilermakers are on the inside but there is not a lot of room for error. Purdue has an RPI of 46 and it is 4-6 against the top 50 which are both pretty average but today sets up a great opportunity to add a quality win to the résumé. This is a chance for Purdue to win three straight games for the first time since the end of November. The Boilermakers will be jazzed up for some payback as well. We played Michigan St. in the first meeting and it could not have gone better as the Spartans rolled from the start thanks to Purdue not being able to get to the arena until just two hours prior to the noon start because of bad weather. That was the second consecutive blowout loss against Michigan St. following last season's 18-point thumping in the Big Ten Tournament. It is now time for some payback. Purdue is 11-3 at home this season, suffering rare losses to Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan. The Boilermakers are in a good spot here though as they are 8-1 ATS in their last nine home games after two or more consecutive wins while going a perfect 4-0 ATS in their last four games as a home underdog of fewer than seven points. The Spartans meanwhile have been the complete opposite as they are 0-7 ATS in their last seven games as a road favorite of fewer than seven points. 10* (824) Purdue Boilermakers
