Game: Boston Celtics at Detroit Pistons Feb 19 2012 6:05PM
Prediction: Boston Celtics
Grade: Loser (-110)
Reason: I'm laying the points with Boston on Sunday. Quick revenge for the Celtics, but more importantly, one of their key players who missed this week's earlier meeting will return when Kevin Garnett takes the floor. Garnett, along with Brandon Bass (still out) both missed the 98-88 loss to Detroit on Wednesday. The Celtics actually led the Pistons through 3 quarters of play but were outscored 25-16 in the 4th. As Ray Allen stated, the 4th quarter has been a strong-point for Boston, but not without the 2 big names mentioned earlier. Garnett returned last time out and I expect a world of difference in this one. The Celtics are on a 10-3 ATS run in Detroit and they're 5-1 ATS on the road when playing with at least 1 day of rest between games. Boston ranks 2nd on the defensive end allowing just 87.2 ppg. They're 2nd in FG percentage allowed and tops in the league in 3-point defense. Lawrence Frank teams have covered just 17 of 53 and averaged just 83 ppg against teams that hold the opposition to 91 ppg or less. At the same time, most casual observers probably don't realize that Boston is 7th in the league in FG accuracy and 5th in 3-point shooting. After "blowout" one in the 4th quarter on Wednesday, I expect the Celtics to gain a serious measure of revenge in this one. Boston is on a 16-6-1 ATS run on 2 days rest. I'm laying the points with Boston on Sunday. Thanks! GL! Scott.
