Philadelphia at Arizona

(Matchup)
We’re not sure which is more incredible; that for the 2nd time this NFL Playoff betting season the Philadelphia Eagles will be a road favorite or that the Arizona Cardinals will be getting to host their second playoff game, two more than they had hosted the previous 61 years. Both are fact and thus for the first time ever we will have a 9-win regular season team in the Super Bowl. The most unlikely NFC Championship game in history, pitting a #4 seed against a #6 seed, takes place Sunday afternoon in the desert. The only question now is who will advance?
For the first time since the playoff format was restructured in 1990, neither of the top two seeds in the National Football Conference will be participating in the Title Game. That’s thanks to these two teams. Arizona pulled off one of the most remarkable upsets in NFL Playoff history last Saturday night, winning 33-13 in Carolina as ten-point underdogs. This will be the Cardinals’ first NFC Championship Game since the AFL/NFL merger in 1970. The Philadelphia Eagles went into New York and beat the Giants for a 2nd time this season at the Meadowlands, winning in convincing 23-11 fashion. It was the second straight year the NFC’s top seed was one and done after a 20-year period where the top team during the regular season advanced to the Conference Championship game each year without fail.
These teams met Thanksgiving Night in Philadelphia and it was all Eagles in a 48-20 win. It was that game that kick started a second half run for Andy Reid’s team, who have won and covered six of their last seven games. In the Thanksgiving Night affair, Philly outgained Arizona 437-260 as they improved to 7-2 SU/ATS the last nine head to head meetings with their former division rivals. It was also the 3rd straight win and cover by the favorite.
The venue change should be a big boost for the Cardinals, however, as they are 7-2 SU/ATS on their home field this season and average over thirty points per game here. Not only is this team 10-0 Over when coming off an Under (they are here), but they also went 8-1 Over in their nine home games this season.
This will be the fifth NFC Title Game appearance for the Eagles during the Reid/McNabb era. Unfortunately, they are just 1-3 SU previously with all but one of those games coming at home. They did cover that lone road date, losing to St. Louis, 29-24, back in 2001 as big 10.5-point dogs.
