The LA Lakers have only been an underdog nine times this season. They have covered in only three of those games. More importantly, they have gone Under in eight of them.
Wednesday night will mark the 10th time that Los Angeles will be taking points in a game as they visit San Antonio. The Spurs are one of the select few to have been favored against the Lakers this season and all they did was hand LA one of its worst losses of the year, 105-85, on January 12th. The Lakers have already returned the favor, winning 101-89, at Staples last month.
Back to the total, Under may be the way to go as these two Western powers have combined to stay Under the total 10 of the past 13 meetings.
The line has officially opened with the Spurs favored by a single point, so some of the above information could be null if the public decides to play LA here. The Lakers have won their last six games, but are just 3-5 ATS over the last eight contests and 7-15 ATS L22.
Their average margin of victory during the current win streak is just 5.5 points per game. They nearly blew a 59-33 halftime lead against Washington on Sunday, getting outscored by 19 points in the second half, but held on to ensure that they would be in the playoffs for a 15th time in 16 seasons.
For San Antonio, this will be the third game in four nights. They recovered nicely from an OT loss in Atlanta Sunday with a 99-96 road win over Oklahoma City the following night. The Spurs have won six of their last eight, covering the spread in every victory while failing to cash in both defeats. Since 1996, the team is 67-41 ATS when coming off a win by three points or less.
Now that they are the ones seeking revenge, we must note that San Antonio has not been a very effective revenge team. Over the last two seasons, they are just 4-15 ATS when playing with in-season revenge and 6-21 ATS revenging a road loss. On the bright side, they have beaten the Lakers four of the last five times they've visited.
This will be the second game of a ESPN doubleheader with Boston vs. Denver coming first. The Lakers are in Oklahoma City Friday night while up next for the Spurs are the Cavs, also on Friday.
