Two of the worst pointspread teams in the entire NBA meet in Dallas tonight with the Mavs hosting the Boston Celtics. Ironically enough, both teams lead their respective divisions. Dallas finds itself in that unfavorable role of home chalk tonight, currently laying 4.5 points at the betting window against the Boys from Beantown.
The Mavericks are a league worst 8-26 ATS at home this season, including 7-26 when favored. Predictably, they enter tonight’s game riding a three-game ATS losing streak. However, they have won 14 of their last 15 overall, including a 113-106 win over Chicago on St. Patrick’s Day that followed their only loss over the last month, a head-scratching 34-point defeat to the Knicks. The team was favored by double-digits in all three recent games. They are 18-6 ATS this year when playing with two days rest.
Boston is just 28-38 ATS overall this season, very similar to Dallas’ 29-39 ATS mark. One role that has treated the Celtics well through the years is that of the underdog, in which they’ve gone 33-19 ATS the last three seasons. However, that includes just a 6-6 ATS mark this season.
The Celtics have won their last three games, all against non-playoff teams. Last night’s 94-87 win over the Rockets was arguably their most impressive in a while as they held Houston under 40% shooting in a game they covered as 1.5-point road chalk. Boston is now 12-0 SU when holding its opponent to under 40% shooting this season.
Dallas won in Boston in the season’s first meeting 99-90 as 4.5-point pups. Prior to that, the Celtics had won the last four head to head meetings.
