The Miami Heat were involved in one of the stranger NBA betting results in recent memory last night in Memphis. Not only did the team’s double overtime victory fail to go Over the total (which was only 188.5!), but they also won outright by 13 points! And we repeat, the game went to double overtime! Oh yeah, and they were without superstar and the league’s sixth leading scorer Dwyane Wade.

Wade has now been ruled out for tonight’s game as well at the Dallas Mavericks, a tough spot for the team considering they played last night. The oddsmakers know this and have installed the Heat as large 11.5-point road underdogs. Miami is a money-burning 10-21 ATS when playing on back to back days since the start of last season. This year, they are 4-8 SU in the second of back to backs with the eight losses coming by an average of nearly 20 points per game.

Dallas also played last night and was victorious on the road, beating the Orlando Magic outright 95-85 as seven-point underdogs. It marked the fourth consecutive year that the Mavs went into Orlando and won outright. It bodes well for tonight’s result as well considering the club is 13-3 ATS since 1996 when coming off a double-digit win where they were an underdog of six or more points.

Totals players will want to know that Miami is 9-1 Under when coming off a SU dog win. The over/under line for this game has opened at 184.5.

The Heat is 4-0 on the current five-game road trip and has won five straight games overall. However, they have lost 11 straight regular season meetings with the Mavs, falling by an average of 13.8 PPG. Of course, Dallas would gladly trade those 11 wins for the four that got away in the 2006 NBA Finals, won by Miami in six games, which included wins by the Heat in the final four games after starting the series 0-2.

These teams last met on December 11th in Miami with Dallas winning 106-93 and easily covering as 1.5-point chalk.

The Mavs haven’t fared that well in the second night of back to backs either, going just 7-7 SU. They’ve been even worse at home this season, speaking only in terms of the pointspread, as they are a league worst 6-19 ATS in home games.
