Texas at Oakland

(matchup)
With a precarious two-game division lead in the American League West, the Texas Rangers should have an opportunity to widen the gap when they play the Oakland Athletics this weekend. The Rangers swept a four game series the last time they played the A’s and oddsmakers have opened them as -130 favorites on the money line Friday night.

There is a bit of a “subplot” heading into this AL West matchup. Rangers starter CJ Wilson made some headlines yesterday when he ripped Oakland fans and said he hates pitching at Alameda Coliseum. According to Wilson, the pitching mound in Oakland “sucks.”

Wilson has already faced the A’s three times this season, going 1-2. He has gone at least seven innings in every start and has allowed a total of eight runs.
The Rangers’ lefty has not been sharp of late with a 7.53 ERA his last three starts. The good news for Texas bettors is that Wilson does own an 18-4 team start record as a favorite of -125 to -175.
Oakland has been an excellent
baseball pick when priced as a home underdog, going 7-1 in that role this season. The A’s have won four of their last five, all on the road, but have dropped five in a row overall to the Rangers.
The Athletics will start Brandon McCarthy, who has been excellent over his last three starts with a 3-0 record and 1.64 ERA. In two starts vs. Texas this year, McCarthy has not received a decision either way, allowing nine runs, four of them unearned, over 12 innings.
Since the start of last season, Oakland has been a bad MLB pick when seeking revenge for a shutout loss, going 3-14.
