First place in the National League West is on the line tonight in San Francisco as the World Series Champion Giants host the Arizona Diamondbacks. San Francisco has opened up as a -160 money line favorite, largely because they will be starting Tim Lincecum, who is opposed by Daniel Hudson in a battle of righties.

Traditionally, the Giants have been a great baseball pick when matched up against Arizona. Going into last night, they were 33-12 overall vs. their division rivals, including 17-4 at home. However, they lost 5-2 in Monday’s series opener. It was San Francisco’s fourth straight loss overall as they were swept at Cincinnati over the weekend.
The Giants are now 7-3 vs. Arizona this season, including 3-1 at home.

Lincecum obviously gives San Francisco a great chance at gaining revenge tonight. The former two-time Cy Young Award winner has a 0.95 ERA his last three starts and he’s allowed 1 ER or less in six of his previous seven starts. However, the Giants are just 4-3 in those games, largely due to the fact that they are giving Lincecum less than three runs of support per outing.
San Francisco has won Lincecum’s previous three starts vs. Arizona. This includes a 1-0 win back in May where Lincecum gave up only four hits over eight innings.
Despite a 32-19 record (+8 units), the Giants are averaging just 2.9 runs per game here at home.
The Diamondbacks are a hot team right now, winning seven of nine and scoring 6.0 runs per game. All of these wins have come against division opponents.
Daniel Hudson is looking to avoid losing his third straight for Arizona. Hudson has an outstanding strikeout to walk ratio of 115 to 33 for the season, but has not necessarily pitched that well on the road (4.64 ERA in 11 starts). He has lost two starts vs. San Francisco this season, both coming against Matt Cain.
