Is there a more atrocious team in MLB than the Houston Astros? The short answer is no. When it comes to charting
MLB picks, Houston is indeed the worst team in the league at 28-53, down 19.5 units. Tonight, they are a +120 home underdog against the Texas Rangers, a role that has not been kind to them of late.
Last night’s 3-2 loss continued a real tale of woe for the Astros this year. They are now 13-30 in home games and a hideous 16-41 vs. righties. They have now lost eight in a row at home and eight of their last nine games overall. They are 1-4 vs. the Rangers this season and are 0-8 L8 vs. their ‘in state rivals’ here at Minute Maid Park, getting outscored 46-21 in those games.

There is some good news for Houston though in that they will be facing a lefty tonight and they are actually a .500 club this year vs. southpaws, going 12-12.
Unfortunately, they lefty they will be facing is Matt Harrison, who has a 3-0 team start record vs. the National League so far in 2011 and a 0.83 ERA. Harrison allowed just one run and seven hits in an 8-1 win over the Mets in his previous start. It was his third consecutive start allowing just one earned run.
The Astros counter with a lefty of their own in Wandy Rodriguez, who has been the team’s most reliable starter this season. However, after allowing no runs in three of his previous four starts, including back to back outings here in June after coming off the DL, he was pounded for five runs by Tampa Bay in a loss last time out.
Houston is 14-6 when Rodriguez starts at home and they are an underdog.
