Florida at Oakland
Wednesday, June 29th, 10:05 PM

(matchup)

It just keeps getting worse for the Florida Marlins. Last night, they were one-hit in a 1-0 loss at Oakland, dropping them to 3-23 in the month of June as a $100 per game player would now be up $1905 had he/she played against the Marlins in all of those games. Incredibly, 12 of the Marlins’ 23 losses have come by one run, including last night, and if you took the run line in those games you would actually be 9-3!

Tonight, the Marlins are even on the money line against the Oakland A’s, who have won six straight home games. The pitching matchup features Ricky Nolasco vs. Guillermo Moscoso, two hurlers headed in opposite directions of late.

Moscoso, who has made just six starts since coming into the rotation due to injury, knows what it’s like to be on the wrong end of a one-run loss. Despite throwing seven innings of scoreless, two-hit ball last time out vs. Philadelphia, the A’s lost the game 1-0. In his prior start to that, Moscoso again did not yield an earned run and this time Oakland beat San Francisco 4-2.

Meanwhile, like his team, Ricky Nolasco has been a lousy MLB pick of late. He’s 0-3 with a 7.80 ERA his last three starts, none of which were decided by one run. In fact, Florida has been outscored by 10 runs in those three losses. Nolasco does still own a 15-6 team start record on the road, although the Marlins are 0-2 last two. Overall, the Marlins are 0-6 in Nolasco’s previous six starts.

Neither of tonight’s starters has faced his respective opponent before.

Oakland only had four hits in last night’s win, so both teams have had their fair share of issues at the plate. In fact, the Athletics have not hit more multiple home runs in 31 straight games. No Florida hitter made it past first base last night and in no inning did more than four Marlins come to the plate.

Obviously, this makes the under look like an attractive MLB pick. Tonight’s total is 7.5 runs. Oakland is 10-2 Under in Interleague Play this season.

After starting the year 14-4 in one run games, Florida has lost 14 straight one run decisions.
