Last night’s loss dropped the Cards to 1-9 this season when facing a team with a win percentage of greater than .540. The team has been outscored 65-32 over its last 10 games, losing eight of them, and now trails Milwaukee in the National League Central. They are also dealing with the loss of slugger Albert Pujols for 4-6 weeks.
Phillies starter Cliff Lee would appear to be a good MLB pick on the money line here, but he’s been terrible on the road this year, going 1-4 with a 5.35 ERA, including a loss here in St. Louis back on May 16th. In that loss, Lee walked a career high six batters and allowed three runs in 6.3 IP. Over the last two seasons, Lee has a poor 4-10 team start record as a road favorite of -125 or more. He was a -145 favorite in the loss to St. Louis earlier this year.
The Cards counter with Kyle Lohse, who has cooled off considerably following a hot start. He’s allowed four earned runs in each of his previous three starts, none of those wins. Against Philadelphia, Lohse has been even worse. In his last three starts against them, he’s got an 0-3 team start record and an 8.78 ERA.
Philadelphia has won 9 of its last 11 and has the best record in baseball betting at 46-28.
