Chicago White Sox at Toronto Blue Jays
Thursday, May 26th, 7:07 PM

(matchup)

By the time the Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays begin their four-game set Thursday in Rogers Centre, just about all of the baseball betting will be done for the day. One of only two night games on the card, these two American League clubs are both off a loss yesterday and will try and get back on the winning side and inch closer to .500. Odddsmakers have opened the Blue Jays as -130 favorites on the betting line.

The pitching matchup would seem to favor Chicago as the MLB pick of choice as they start Philip Humber, who has pitched well over eight starts despite a mediocre record. He’s 3-3 with a 2.86 ERA on the season and is coming off a pretty good showing in a 6-4 loss to the Dodgers where he allowed just two runs through seven innings. Toronto will start Brandon Morrow, who has been far less impressive so far with an ERA of 7.54 his last three outings. Although he has not pitched well here this season (7.37 ERA), the Blue Jays have won 17 of Morrow’s previous 22 starts.

While the pitching matchup may seem to favor the visitor, recent head to head play would seem to prefer the home team as the correct MLB pick. Over the last three seasons, Toronto is 11-4 vs. the White Sox, including 6-2 North of the Border. This will be the first matchup between these teams this season.

The White Sox have won seven of their last 10, but come in having dropped two of three to the Texas Rangers. Last night, they were beaten 2-1 despite Chicago hurlers allowing just three hits. The previous night’s game did not end until after 1 AM ET due to a rain delay.

Toronto was a great MLB pick for underdog bettors on Tuesday, cashing at +170 in the series opener with the Yankees. However, they would go on to lose the next two games, including 7-3 last night. Starter Jo-Jo Reyes matched a Major League Baseball record by failing to win a decision for his 28th consecutive start.

Over the past seven days, Chicago’s offense seems to have finally woken up. They are averaging 5.4 runs per game while hitting .289.
