Only four favorites covered in Thursday NCAA Tournament action. Two of them were BYU and Kansas State. Those two teams will meet Saturday with the spoils of the Sweet 16 going to the winner. The favored Wildcats, who looked like a Final Four team in opening round action, are currently laying 4.5 points at the betting window.

While BYU did cover against Florida, it certainly was not an easy ride for those who bet on the Cougars. The Tournament’s first game went all the way to double overtime and it wasn’t until that second extra session that the chalk found itself in the money after blowing a 13-point second half lead.

Cougars G Jimmer Fredette is poised to become the breakout star of the tournament. After scoring 75 points in two Mountain West Tournament games, he led his team with 37 in the win over Florida. However, those who watched the game will be quick to tell you that the play of sophomore guard Michael Loyd Jr, who added 26, was just as critical.

A win here and Brigham Young would enjoy a huge home court advantage for next weekend’s games, which will be played in Salt Lake City. However, the Cougars have not been a good underdog team through the years, going 49-76 ATS, including 1-3 this season.

Kansas State demolished North Texas in its opening round game, 82-62 as 15.5-point chalk. Their own backcourt of Danny Clemente and Jacob Pullen combine to average 35 points per game. The Wildcats have gone 17-6 ATS as a favorite, 16-6 ATS vs. teams with a winning record and 8-2 ATS vs. non-conference opponents.

Neutral court favorites, off a cover as a double-digit favorite, are just 59-102 ATS since 1997 in Saturday NCAA action.
