It was last Monday when Kansas State recorded the biggest win in program history, beating then #1 Texas, 71-62, at home. It didn’t take long for the Wildcats to throw away all the good will in the bank, falling over the weekend in a classic trap game to Oklahoma State, 73-68, as 9.5-point home favorites. Things get no easier to start this week when they visit the Ferrell Center to play #24 Baylor.
Big 12 home teams have been ridiculous this season and Baylor is no different, going a perfect 10 for 10 in Waco. The Bears come off a 71-45 win over UMass on Saturday that saw them jump out to a 14-point halftime lead and hold the Minutemen to 24.2% shooting for the game. It was the team’s third straight cover and sixth in seven lined games.
However, Kansas State has been one of the few teams in the league to demonstrate an ability to go out and win on the road, owning a win at Colorado. They are also 8-2 against the spread vs. teams with a winning record and 3-0 straight up vs. teams currently ranked in the Top 25. In the past, Tuesday has not been their best day to hit the road though as they are just 1-15 ATS their last 16 Tuesday road games, whatever that may mean.
The Wildcats have lost in each of their previous two trips to Waco, losing by 14 and by two in a game they were favored by seven. In the only meeting between the teams last season, Baylor won big in Manhattan, 83-65, as three-point road underdogs. Their 96-82 win on February 8th, 2008 was the last time the Bears beat a Top 25 team at home. They are also 0-6 ATS as a home favorite of three points or less.
Baylor has lost its only game vs. a ranked opponent this year, falling 81-75 last week at Kansas, although they did cash as 14-point underdogs. The Bears will play at Texas on Saturday.
Kansas State’s loss to Oklahoma State marked only the second time this season they were held below 70 points. They come in averaging 81.7 PPG. They have gone Over in 10 of 11 road games when the total is 140 and 149.5.
