#1 ranked Texas is now an underdog for tonight’s matchup with 12th ranked Kansas State. Obviously, to be favored over the top-ranked team in the country, the Wildcats are no slouch as they’ve won 13 straight home games dating back to last year, a school record. Most online sportsbooks have KSU favored by 1.5 points. This game will be broadcast on ESPN at 9:00 ET.

Kansas State comes into tonight’s game at 15-2 and has won two straight after losing its conference opener at Missouri on January 9th. Their only other loss came all the way back on November 20th to Ole Miss on a neutral court. This team has gone 8-2 ATS in the favorite role this season and 7-1 ATS vs. teams with a winning record. They have split the last four overall meetings with Texas and have an average margin of victory at home of better than 22 points per game this season.

The Wildcats are off a close 87-81 win at Colorado on Saturday. They shot 54 free throws, making 38 of them, in the victory where they just eked out a cover as 5.5-point chalk. Note that KSU is a perfect 7-0 against the spread this season following back to back games where the opposition was called for 22 or more fouls.

Dennis Clemente and Jacob Pullen pace the scoring for this team. Pullen is second in the Big 12 in both PPG (19.7) and three-point shooting (44.4%). He had a team high 18 points vs. Colorado and hit three three-pointers. He’s also scored in double-figures in all 17 games this season. Clemente scored a season-high 24 points the game before against Texas A&M and had a career-best 44 points the last time he faced Texas.

The Longhorns, meanwhile, have struggled a bit since attaining the #1 ranking in the country. After winning 14 of its first 15 games by double-digits and seven by 25 or more, Rick Barnes’ charges have played two of its closest games of the season since becoming #1 in the country for the first time in school history. They actually trailed Iowa State by two at the half on Wednesday before pulling away for a 90-83 win. Against Texas A&M on Saturday, they trailed by 10 with 15 minutes remaining before forcing overtime and prevailing 72-67.

Texas did not cover either game and has failed to cash in four straight games overall. They are just 5-16 ATS in Big 12 play the last two seasons, including 1-11 when off a conference win. Certainly if you were going to go against the Longhorns on the money line at any point this season, this would look like the best opportunity to date. They are just one of two remaining unbeatens in the country with #2 Kentucky being the other.

Senior Damion James, who is already the Big 12’s all-time leading rebounder, will be seeking a conference record 48th double-double tonight. He averages 11.2 rebounds per game on the year.

Both of these teams rank amongst the highest scoring in the nation with Texas averaging 87.2 PPG and Kansas State 83.1. Tonight’s total opened at 161, but quickly dropped to 159.
