2010 Green Bay Packers Future Wager

Free NFL Pick: Take Green Bay Over 9.5
One of our favorite NFL Futures wagers for the 2010 season is to play the Green Bay Packers over 9.5 wins. The public apparently agrees with us as you must now wager $190 to win $100 at Bodog Sportsbook while the Under nets at +150 return. Considering the Pack is coming off an 11 win campaign in 2009 and the fact that the team should be better this year, this looks like easy money.
QB Aaron Rodgers is our pick to win the NFL Regular Season MVP. This is another prop bet you can wager on at Bodog with Rodgers currently listed at 9/1 odds. Currently, only Drew Brees and three time winner Peyton Manning have lower odds to win the individual honor. Rodgers is the only quarterback in NFL history to throw for more than 4,000 yards in each of his first two years as a starter and is a lock to make it three straight years. He looked incredible in the preseason.
The Pack was very effective at the betting window in ’09, posting an 11-5-1 ATS mark. They covered their final six regular season games and went 7-0-1 ATS L8. Their season ended with a OT playoff loss at Arizona where they were actually favored in a wild 51-45 loss. Only two of their losses came by more than a touchdown. One of those was to their main rival Minnesota, who swept the two meetings. You can expect the revenge angle to be in play in Week 7 this year when they host the Vikings. Considering Green Bay is favored in Week One at Philadelphia, they figure to be favored in just about every game this season.
Green Bay’s biggest weakness last year was their offensive line, but that unit improved as the season wore on. After surrendering an alarming 43 sacks through the first 10 weeks, they allowed just seven in the final six games. The defense was outstanding, leading the league in both rushing yards allowed and turnovers forced.
Minnesota will be their only competition in the NFC North, so a 5-1 SU division record is to be expected. The non-division schedule, however, is brutal with both the AFC and NFC East. They also have road games against Atlanta and Washington, so navigating the schedule will not be easy.
Coming into last year, there was a lot to like about the Packers considering seven of their 10 losses the season prior came by four points or less (an NFL record). This year, everyone will be gunning for them as they are the consensus pick to win the division despite the fact that Minnesota went 12-4 and brings just about everyone back. One good thing is that they are a notoriously strong closer with a 32-6 SU home record in the month of December.
Not only do we recommend a wager on the Packers over 9.5 wins and Rodgers to win the NFL MVP, but let’s just come out and say that we like this group to win the whole thing. Right now at Bodog Sportsbook, you can get them at 10/1 odds. Look for it to be a Super Season in the Land of Cheese in 2010.
