Both the Baltimore Ravens and the Green Bay Packers are seeking a win to stay in the hunt for the Wild Card spot in their respective conferences. Baltimore enters this game at 6-5 SU and ATS. Green Bay meanwhile is 7-4 SU and 6-4-1 ATS. Each of these teams will be playing this game without some key players on defense. Baltimore will be missing starting cornerback Fabian Washington and linebacker Terrell Suggs because of knee injuries. Safety Ed Reed didn’t practice all week and is listed as questionable. Also, Ray Lewis has been bothered by a foot injury in recent weeks, but he is expected to play. Green Bay meanwhile will be without two key components: defensive end Aaron Kampman and cornerback Al Harris. Despite the injuries, oddsmakers made Green Bay a 2.5 point home favorite earlier in the week. Sharp action came in on Green Bay and pushed that number to Green Bay minus 3.5. The public action is fairly even on this contest with slightly more coming in on Green Bay.
Baltimore is a fairly balanced team on offense. QB Joe Flacco has had a nice season as the Ravens’ passing attack is averaging over 235 yards per game. Baltimore, however, also has a rushing attack led by spark plug Ray Rice who can beat you on the ground or through the air as a receiver. He’s a special player and Green Bay will have to hold him check in order to win this football game. Green Bay has not given up a ton of yards as they rank 3rd in the NFL in total defense, giving up just an average of 281.5 yards per game. They also rank 4th in rushing defense but will sorely miss Aaron Kampman, who anchors this defensive line. Someone will have to step up big to take his place in order to keep Ray Rice from getting outside on the edge. He is most dangerous in the open field and if the front seven can’t contain him, he could have a big day.
Green Bay is led by QB Aaron Rodgers on offense who has been superb thus far this season. He has thrown for 3,100 yards and 22 touchdowns. Rodgers has also done a nice job taking care of the ball as he has only thrown 5 interceptions. The Packers are ranked 6th in the NFL in total yards and 5th in passing as they are averaging nearly 263 yards per game through the air. The question mark for this offense however has been the offensive line. They have given up 44 sacks, which is the highest total given up by any line in the NFL. Baltimore likes to blitz, particularly Ray Lewis, and they really try to confuse the offensive line and the quarterback as they attack from everywhere. The biggest key to this game will be how well the Green Bay offensive line holds up against this attacking Baltimore defense. If they get to Rodgers, they have a good chance of pulling the upset.
