Last Monday Night we were treated to another “OVER” as the Saints spanked the Packers 51-29. And with the Jacksonville Jaguars travelling to Houston to take on the Texans (-3), one would think that the games total would be a relatively low one, however, it has opened at 48.
Jacksonville won 11 games last season and defeated Pittsburgh in a Wild Card game before bowing out of the playoffs with a loss to New England in the Divisional Round. It was the team's deepest playoff run since advancing to the AFC championship game in 1999. Houston made its own strides in 2007, finishing 8-8 for the first non-losing record in the franchise's six seasons. The young Texans appeared to be turning the corner and earned the first Monday night appearance in their history, but at 4-7 have regressed this season.
The Jaguars fumbled away 14 points in the 1:41 of their game last weekend and allowed the visiting Vikings to coast to a 30-12 victory. The Texans snapped an eight-game road-losing streak against the Browns last weekend. The Jaguars have lost four of five games in Houston after winning their first game there against the expansion Texans in 2002.
So will the Jags play with a sense of urgency and pride that’s been lacking all season long?
Which Texans team is going to show up? The team that held the Browns to 6 points, or the team that has put together a sub-par 4-7 overall record?
Here are a few key ATS trends to keep in mind before wagering on this contest:
Jacksonville is just 3-8 ATS overall, but is 2-1 ATS when playing the role of underdog this season. They are also a dismal 1-7 ATS in games played on a grass field.
Houston is 1-3 ATS this season as the favorite, but 3-1 ATS vs. division opponents. They also 5-1 ATS over the last three seasons in a home game where the total is between 45.5 and 49 points.
Good luck on Monday December 1st!
