2011 Week 2 CFL Power Rankings
by Murray Hill Mike
East Division –
1. Montreal (2-0) – The defending Grey Cup Champions haven’t missed a beat in 2011 as they have knocked off British Columbia and reigning West Division Champs Saskatchewan in the first two weeks of the season.
2. Winnipeg (2-0) – The Blue Bombers won just four games all last season, but have already shown they may be the most improved team this season. They have the league’s top defense allowing just 16 PPG while defeating division foes Toronto and Hamilton by an average of seven PPG.
3. Toronto (1-1) – The Argonauts defeated Calgary in Week One, which was a big win for them as the Stampeders have had their number through the years. But they lost this past week to Winnipeg. Toronto fans shouldn’t worry as the Argos once again has one of the top defenses in the league.
4. Hamilton (0-2) – The Ti-Cats have taken a step back after a solid 2010 season in which they made the playoffs for the second consecutive season. They are scoring just 13 PPG while allowing 26 PPG.
West Division –
1. Edmonton (2-0) – Through two weeks the Eskimos have the top offense (35 PPG) and have the second-best defense (19 PPG) in the entire league. Veteran QB Ricky Ray has been tough this season with 682 yards, four TD’s and zero INT’s. He has gotten plenty of help from receivers Fred Stamps and Adarius Bowman who each rank top five in the league in receiving yards.
2. Calgary (1-1) – All-CFL QB Henry Burris has not been very sharp the first few weeks as he has thrown three TD’s, but also has four INT’s. Last year he threw for 38 TD’s and nearly 5,000 yards. The Stampeders were able to sneak out of British Columbia with a 34-32 win despite turning the ball over five times.
3. British Columbia (0-2) – The Lions have lost two hard fought games losing by four at Montreal (30-26) in Week One and this past week at home against Calgary (34-32). BC has proven early on that they can hang with the big boys, but need to get a winner.
4. Saskatchewan (0-2) – The defending West Division Champion has not looked very good in 2011. First they lost at home to Edmonton (42-28) as a six-point home favorite. This week they dropped another at home in a Grey Cup rematch against Montreal (39-25).
