Since looking at the Big East Conference exactly one month ago, the landscape has changed some since conference play got into full swing. There were nine ranked teams 22nd or better last month, but now just there are just six in the top 23 after brutal Big East play.
Connecticut, the #1 team in the country has won 9 straight and has just one conference loss which was in December to Georgetown. Louisville and Marquette have played well since we last checked both losing just one game. Notre Dame was 13th in the nation, but has slipped considerably, as they have lost eight straight against the spread while going 1-8 straight up. They have all but eliminated themselves from going to the Big Dance barring a Big East tournament championship. Conference play has not been kind to DePaul, as like the Fighting Irish, they have lost eight straight and while covering just one game. It is looking more and more like eight teams from the Big East will have a good chance at being selected to go to the tournament this year once again, rather than a record nine.
