The UCLA Bruins are the most decorated NCAA Basketball program. They own eleven National Championships
and have been to three straight Final Four’s. Head Coach Ben Howland returns for his sixth season at
UCLA where he has amassed an impressive 126-45, .737 record including three 30+ win seasons in as many
years.
Last year, the Bruins relied heavily on Kevin Love, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, and Russell
Westbrook. Those three are all in the NBA now and the Bruins are making do with what they have. The
cupboard isn't bare as the Bruins bring back 6'0" preseason All-American PG Darren Collison, 6'5" fifth-year
senior G/F Josh Shipp, and 6'9" big man Alfred Aboya. Also helping out will be juniors 6'8" James Keefe,
6'5" Michael Roll, and 6'8" Nikola Dragovic. Howland has also brought in one of the top freshmen classes in
the nation with guards 6’3” Jrue Holiday, 6’5” Malcolm Lee, and 6’1” Jerime Anderson, and bigmen 6’8”
Drew Gordon, and 6’10” J'mison Morgan. Jrue Holliday is the most heralded freshman of the group; the
Gatorade High School Basketball Player of the Year and McDonald All-American should step in and fill
the void left by Russell Westbrook. Malcolm Lee also has McDonald’s All-American on his resume. While
the seniors and returning players will provide stability and leadership, this UCLA team will only go
as far as how well their freshman step in and play. With a very weak Pac 10 this year, the Bruins
should have no problem getting their auMikeatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
